The Hotel 1898 is probably the best hotel I have ever stayed at. Great location and impressive facilities - from the room, to the lobby and bar, to the rooftop pool and basement spa! The hotel was a quiet oasis from all of the craziness going on on the Ramblas for which it is located. Until you step outside you... More

My wife and I stayed at the 1898 at the start of October 2006. It's a fantastic hotel - in many respects a 5* experience, though perhaps falling short of an official rating on one or two technicalities. Things that you may find useful when considering booking are : * Roof Terrace - Gloriously quiet with panoramic views of the... More

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel purely based on the impressive reviews we read on the excellent tripadvisor, which has never failed us! I can say that we found the reviews to be a true representation of the place- great hotel, ideal location and wonderfully atmospheric. Even the negatives were on point- watch out for the early morning wake... More

perfect place to stay a week-end and discover the heart of barcelona. The situation is very central: all the main tourist attractions are within a few minutes walk and it is a convenient situation to go out in the evening and enjoy the night in Barcelona streets. we stayed there during a very special week-end (Merce or Virgin Mary celebration... The hotel it's self is bautiful, very elegant and in an amazing location, plus if you get a ramblas view, your stay will be very memorable, however, they charge a fortune for everything. We had coffee in our room but no kttle, so you ask for hot water which they brought up, but I also asked for milk in my... More

I stayed at this hotel with my husband for 10 nights in August 06 and we were not disappointed. The style and ambiance of the hotel is quiet and relaxed, and whilst staff are friendly, they keep a respectful distance. The decor is new and the hotel is very clean. Our room was well attended and although our classic room... More

The hotel is superb, in a great location, right on Las Ramblas, couldnt ask for more. Even though its in the main district its still very quite when in your room. The only thing for me is that I wished there was a kettle in the room, there was all the facilities to make a drink but you had to... More

We have just returned from a three day break at Hotel 1898. What a fantastic find, great location being right on La Ramblas, fantastic facilities, wonderful rooftop pool and a small but perfectly adequate indoor pool. If I had one critiscism it would be that they need to extend their spa treatements, having said that I had a wonderful massage... More

A truly lovely hotel. Arriving into the Foyer you definately get the wow factor. The hotel room was lovely and very clean, however we noticed there was a leak in the bathroom so we were upgraded to a superior room which was at the front of the las ramblas but too noisy for our liking so we were moved back... Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
