We stayed here mainly because it was close to the Manchester bar and the mama cafe, which we'd liked on the last trip to Barcelona. We only stayed one night and booked a twin room without shower. The hostel wasn't full so it was pretty easy getting into the shower, not sure how this would work out if it was... more

The hostel is centrally located, with good bars and shops around but looks nothing like the advertised website. The room was extremely small (very uncomfortable) and the bathrooms were (communal) not clean. On the up side the man at reception was very helpful and understanding but we were able to find something in Barcelona for a cheaper price and of... more

The location is good but the hostal doesn't look like the pictures I have seen from the web site. Thge pictures look trendy with the white and green color and the pictures on the walls. But in reality, the walls are painted white but it is black in some parts and because of moisture some parts are also yellow and... more

Location: some people will say the Raval neighborhood is dodgy; some will like it because it’s hip. It’s a centralish location, a short walk to Pl. Universitat or Pl. de Catalunya. But, of course you have to walk through the square at the MACBA with all the skateboarding kids. Room: Our non-smoking room was clean, but smelled too strongly of... more

The Gat Raval is not clearly signed, we managed to find the place and once we were buzzed in the front door, made our way through the semi-construction site that was the entry hall. Dragging our luggage up 6 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS! to the third floor and the hostal reception, we were informed that the construction site was in fact... more

We were booked to stay in the GAT Raval for two nights in Barcelona. We had previously stayed at another of the GAT hostals in the city (the Xino) and were impressed. However, we were much less so with the Raval and ended up only staying one night (which was more than enough). Upon checking in, we discovered that our... more

Gat Raval is like staying in a clean, well air conditioned prison cell. It is basically 4 concrete walls, a concrete floor and roof with a bed in the middle (the beds are pretty comfortable by the way). The place is fine if you are looking for very basic accommodation however for the money (I think we paid about 75... more

Made the mistake of not booking far in advance for Barcelona in the height of the tourist season and we were pleased to find space here at Gat Raval. Location: El Raval is a bit gritty but it's a convienient location. You can walk to La Rambla and there is plenty of dining/drinking options nearby. Late at night I would... more

If you strip away the thin layer of artiness, all that remains are small, overpriced rooms and very basic facilities. We didn't have warm water in our room with bathroom for four days (!), except for 5 minutes one evening when the hotel was very quiet. The double room consisted of two seperate bunk beds, and the view was a... more

Wind your way down a narrow street dotted with Lebanese convenience stores, dank tapas bars, and roadside urinals until you find yourself at the Gat Raval. Buzz in. Enter a dim, concrete chamber furnished with a bit of garbage here and there, and climb the steep stairwell. Note the cacophony of screaming children emanating from floor 2’s daycare center, as... more
