Having never been to Barcelona before, I was a bit concerned about an affordable hotel in city center being a safe risk. But Hostal Oliva was the best! What an amazing surprise to pass Tiffany's and Armani's on the way there and then approach the lovely brass and wooden doors to a marble entryway with the coolest old elevator ever... More

We stayed in Barcelona for two days as a part of a family vacation. We stayed at Hostal Oliva which is a very simple and centrally located place. The staff is very friendly but does not speak English at all. It seems to us as a good and relatively inexpensive place, if you plan to spend your days exploring the... More

Two-night stay in this spartan hostal which occupies the upper floor of a building located in the Eixample neighborhood (handy for sightseeing and has convenient access to the subway). While hotel rates in Barcelona are among the most expensive in Spain, Hostal Oliva offers small, but clean rooms at very reasonable prices. As our intent was to spend little time... More

The Hostal Oliva is in a superb location, very close to many restaurants, shopping and less than 10 minutes walk from the Aerobus (airport transfer) point at Placa de Catalunya. And if you like to walk, less than an hour will take you to most of the major sights; if not the Metro or buses are close by. Yes, our... More

We have just returned from 3 nights in Hostal Oliva. The romantic approach to the 4th floor in the quaint lift gives you a feel for the lovely old building. The room was impeccably clean, with plenty of storage, and the coffee machine in the Reception provides a welcome start to the day (there is also a vending machine with... More

Used to be a good deal but now it is 91 euro for a double room. No way. I expect something better for that price. In the summer the very old air conditioning is not cool enough and you are kept awake.

We loved Hostal Oliva (don't be put off by the word 'hostal' — it means a small, family-run hotel, not a hostel). The location in the upmarket Passeig de Gracia is amazing, with near neighbours like Tiffany and Manolo Blahnik, and there are lots of wonderful tapas bars in the surrounding area. The hotel is on the fourth floor and... More

Dear Guest, Thank you so much for your opinion. We do our best to offer to every guest the best experience in Barcelona, and seems that your stay in Hostal Oliva was helpful to discover our nice city. As you notice, Hostal is a false friend between the anglosaxon meaning and the reality, so your explanation can help other users.... More

The location is really excellent, the service I got from the cleaning lady and the hostesses Madam Cloustre and Madame Chelo were fantastic. I really felt at home, cause they gave me lots of info. and really took care of me. The room, although without a toillet and shower inside the room was the only minor, however I stayed for... More

If you're looking for a budget hostel that is clean and comfortable, this is it. You can pay for a bathroom in the room or not; the communal bathrooms were the cleanest I have ever seen. Senora, the Owner, of Hostal Oliva, runs a tight ship. Located on the forth floor of a beautiful old building, this small establishment is clean, basic, a little old-fashioned, safe and exceptionally convenient. Dear guest, Thank you for your time and for sharing your experience. It has been a pleasure to be part of your first visit to Barcelona, and we hope you had a great experience with us. Staying in Eixample

Neighborhood Profile
Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
