I've stayed in this hostel couple of times. in the main building we had a twin room with one fake window, it was fine just for sleeping, the we stayed in the room for 4, which was in another entrance, the room was fantastic, view directly to the street, very clean, also the amenities. its just 50metres from catalunya.

great location, very near to las ramblas. airport bus drop-off and pick-up less than a block away. tourist bus stop also less than a block away. there were some issues with hot water, and since it was november and quite chilly, it was a bit of an inconvenience. our twin private ensuite had a small balcony, which was quite pleasant.... Stayed here a couple of times now and have always been impressed. The hostel is excellent value for money for the central location. Within a minute walk you are at the top of the Ramblas; tube station etc. The staff are very easy going and the whole place is clean with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are basic, but... Stayed here with my fiancee for one night in July, 2008. We had booked 6 nights there thinking that it would be adequate and comfortable, if basic, accomodations. But oh God, it was the worst. Hot, cramped and impersonal. Even a traditional hostel has character - this place was like a prison or, perhaps more fittingly, a mental institution. We... More

We stayed at the Hostal Plaza for 3 nights in July 2008. Good Points: - Air Con! Worked fabulously, and was really needed! - Clean - Good Security - Friendly staff - Free internet - GREAT location!!!!! Not So Good Points: - One of us left covered in flea and bedbug bites. Tainted the experience a little being so itchy!... More

Hostal Plaza was cheap, it had an ensuite bathroom and ok beds. We didn't go to Barcelona to sit inside a hotel, we went to see the city, and so we did. The room was very small, but we really didn't need anything but the bed a, shower and toilet. We slept quite well. We spend there 4 nights. I... More

The downside..The room we had was like a jail cell....Dark...the building had an awful smell but an obvious... More

It's difficult to find inexpensive places to stay in Barcelona so I picked this hostal. It has a great location (just a quick walk from Plaza de Catalunya), friendly service (also English-speaking staff), and clean rooms, but I would try to find something better if I went back to Barcelona. Decor is a bit strange, rooms facing the street are... More

Staying in Barrio Gotico (Barri Gotic)

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio Gotico (Barri Gotic)
With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this picturesque neighborhood is the very heart of Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be thrilled to discover quaint terraces and plazas brought to life by the many small bars and local musicians lasting late into the night. Fashionistas will be drawn to Portal de L’Angel, which is lined with well-known brand names and smaller boutique stands.
