Pros: free wi-fi, good location (close to Franca train station, port, hop on/off bus stop, shopping), flat screen tv with English speaking channels. Cons: Staff not overly helpful, linen a bit dated, no lift (two flights of stairs), not great security with their 'leave the key' protocol. Bottom line, you get what you pay for, and Hostal Orleans is perfectly... More

Apart from the tricky case-lugging up two flights of stairs, Hostal Orleans is pretty perfect as far as budget accommodation goes. My double room (for 60 euros a night incl. tax) was en-suite, clean, quiet and well-equipped with a TV (incl. English channels), hairdryer, radiator, air-conditioning, soap/shampoo/shower gel etc. Directly opposite Franca Rail Station and 20 minutes' walk from both... More

Barcelona was my favorite place on a 2 week trip to Spain & Italy this past September, and Hostal Orleans played a big part in that. Sure, if you've got the bucks to splurge on a 5 star place then by all means go ahead, but I still prefer a smaller, more intimate place like this one. And I can't... More

My sister and I stayed at this hostel for 8 nights. It is not a 4 or 5 star hotel by any means but for a very inexpensive hostel, the place was wonderful. Here is what we both liked about the place: - clean - well located (7 minute walk to La Rambla, 3 minute walk from metro station Barcelonetta,... More

Our first room in this hotel was very small and very noisy (as it was near the communal lounge). But when we talked with Raymond about it he went out of his way to get us a quieter room - bonus for us was that it was much larger. I'd ask for a room looking over the side street, not... More

All of the positives noted are right on -- great location, clean, friendly staff. Lugging suitcases up three flights is a challenge, and the air conditioning didn't seem to work. Also, the room is closet-sized, but then again it was cheap. Our biggest problem was the noise. Closed the windows on the street, used ear plugs, but the street sounds... More

Traveled Spain for 8 days and Hostal Orleans was the last place we stayed. This hotel exceeded all of my expectations. The location in Barcelona is awesome for touring the Bari Gotic/finding restaurants and is easy to get to from train stations and airport since it's on a main street. Metro stop is only a short walk away. Staff is... More

My girlfriend and I were in Barcelona for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay here. THe staff was very helpful and the room was very comfortable. It had amenities that you would only find in hotels (like a hairdryer) and the bed was very comfortable. The hostal is on a main street but we didn't have a problem with... More

My fiance & I stayed at Hostal Orleans during the last week of May 2008 & we can't stop talking about Barcelona! It is not the prettiest or most moderns of hostels but is just what we were looking for & would reccomend it to anyone not wanting to spend a lot of money but be in the best area... More

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
