Plus points : lovely helpful reception staff, location. Negatives : dust, mess, basic breakfast with antique toasting machine, small rooms with very little storage for luggage and clothes. Once finished this hotel is in a brilliant location. Don't stay longer than 2 or 3 nights as the lack of space and storage will drive you mad.

The only good things for me were the price and the location. The hotel was under renovation. When such things are scheduled it should be stated clearly upon reservation because then what happens is that they give you an ugly room, not exactly what you asked for (ie bed) and, of course, they cannot change it because the hotel is... Everything tip top, super hotel with very good and plentiful breakfast. Good starting location for all attractions. we felt very safe. eat street (very cheap and good) and metro also just around the corner. many possibilities. The beach is super nice and the gondola railway was also interesting. have fun in Barcelona, we go back in any case, but the... More

This hotel has a very good location just off La Rambla. The breakfast is ok with some hot food and fresh fruit. The two first nights we were placed in a family room with four beds crammed into a room that was obviously meant to be a double room. There was absolutely no place to put 4 suitcases and only... Best side of this Hotel is its location. There was Easter when we were in there. Easter week in Spain is called “Semana Santa” which means "Holy Week" and Easter weekend is at the start of the Easter week in Spain. This made our holiday more colorful :))) Rooms are clear but small. We stayed at Moderno Hotel for 3... More

1 minute off Las Ramblas near Liceu metro on Hospital & less than 10 mins from the sea or Plaza Catalunya in the other direction (where the airport bus drops you). And very close to gothic quarter too. Staff very friendly & helpful especially Javi who was great for restaurant recommendations. Rooms perfectly adequate & great value and breakfast was... More

Booked as a package with flights, the hotel cost us about 50 Euros a night, with tea and coffee facilities and breakfast. It is located next to La Rambla and is in a great position for restaurants and walking around. The rooms are basic, we had no windows. We only used it for sleeping as we were out all day... More

Hotel Moderno Barcelona has excellent location, 10 meters from middle of Las Ramblas and as such is excellent starting point for exploration of Barcelona. Unfortunately, except really nice and friendly receptionists and correct breakfast, they have failed our expectations in basically every aspect. Our room (P2) felt like empty warehouse (big & empty), linen was less than basic, blankets were... More

This was a lovely hotel to stay in the heart of Barcelona. Walking distance to most of the main tourist sights and had the metro and buses only a short stroll from the front door. The reception staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is fully self service with both hot and cold selection. Rooms are very compact but... More

Stayed for 1 night coming back after earlier staying across the road at another hotel which was more expensive (rivoli). This one is cheaper and still in a fantastic spot. The staff at both are great. Main short fall here is the quality of the rooms. To be completely honest, mine smelt really foul. Mouldy. I think I was just... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
