Overall the quality of this hotel is very good. It is clean with a nice modern decor. I spent three nights there with a friend, and following the advice of other travelers here, we requested a room on a higher floor at the back of the hotel. It was a very nice room, nice clean bathroom, quiet at night and... More

We arrived in a bit of a state after an attempted baggage theft at the Metro station "Arc de Triomfe". You never think it will happen to you, but it did and I was very lucky to get my case back with all our belongings and valuables in it. Another 3 seconds and the thief would have been gone, leaving... More

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights before our cruise. We paid USD260 in total for that through hotwire. I don’t agree that this hotel is a 4-star one. While it is clean and functional, it should be 3.5 stars at most. The followings are what have disappointed me: Breakfast is extra 15E per person. All hotels in Europe... More

We have just returned from a marvellous 3 nights in Barcelona aand stayed at the Universal. The hotel is located a 10 minute walk to Las Ramblas and is functional, its primary target being businessmen staying for a night or so during the week and stag parties at the weekend. The area is on the periphories of the red light... More

It is simply unacceptable that this client can say that someone of the hotel stole his telephone. He does NOT have any proof to say something like this. These issues are very serious and you cannot say things without having a proof. Couldn't he have been robbed in the metro on the way to the airport? Or couldn't he have... More

When we arrived the hotel concierge was kinda rude, other concierges we talked to were much more nicer and helpful. We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Location is very good as the metro and funicular are right in front of hotel. Hotel rooms are quite noisy as you can hear if your neighbours are in the shower or... More

I am sorry if this client thinks that our concierge was rude, because our concierges can speak a lot or not, but never are rude, so, maybe this adjective is not really appropiate.. Normally in our front desk we try to help always all the clients and give them all the information possible as in most of the reviews you... More

We stayed here fo 3 nights and found the Hotel Universal to be everything we wanted for a city centre break. The staff were very helpful and friendly (booking restaurants in advance for us), our bedroom was spacious and had greatr views of the city (try to get a room above sixth floor) and the locatuion was ideal for all... Clean, lovely hotel. Fantastic locotion for the port and the main town. Stayed for 3 nights and the room was clean and lovely. My advice - dont take breakfast expensive compared to what you can get down the road at about a fifth of the price.

Great hotel, stayed here when stranded in Barcelona due to the ash cloud. We booked the hotel online direct with the hotel and got a good deal that included breakfast. We arrived about an hour after we had booked the room so it took a while to check in, but whilst we waited we were allowed to use the computers... More

First let’s talk about the location. The hotel is located at the Paral-lel street, less than 10 steps from the hotel entrance there is a metro station (called also the Paral-lel station) in which 3 lines meet: L2, L3 and a funicular (a tram that connects between Paral-lel station and Park de Montjuic station). It is advisory to buy a... More

With some time in Spain and a few hotels under our belt we booked this place based on its location through an online website. When booking through a third party website it seems the 'basic rooms' and the ones offered for the lower rates are the least desired within the hotel for a variety of different reasons. To try to... Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
