First the positives. The room was sufficiently large, clean and tidy and the bathroom had all of the amenities you would expect. The receptionist was also extremely helpful in pointing out where to go. On the downside, our room (which was on the 9th floor because we had asked for a quiet one) seemed to back on to the chambermaids... More

This hotel is clean and modern. It's in a great location just off La Rambla and within walking distance of the harbour. There is a metro station right outside which can take you to the bus stop for the Aerobus or can take you straight to Sagrada Familia and many other attractions. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is... More

We stumbled across this hotel whilst booking a mid week city break to Barcelona on Expedia. We can not have wished for a better placed hotel. The metro stops just outside and you are walking distance to Las Ramblas. The standard rooms are plenty big enough we were lucky enough to be upgrade to a corner suite which gave us... More

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights to sightsee and watch man city. The staff are really friendly and will assist you with any help they can. Carlos in particular at reception advised us regards travelling round to sightsee, he printed off our air tickets and delivered them to our room, he weighed our cases and everything was done... Having researching many hotels for a pre and post cruise stay for Barcelona I finally decided on the Barcelona Universal and was not disappointed. On arrival as we were early they safely stored our luggage for us so we could go out and about and explore. The Barcelona Marathon was on outside the hotel so there was a great atmosphere,... More

Great hotel, very clean, staff helpful, and friendly, breakfast good and plentiful. Rooms quite luxurious, and a good size for a city hotel. 10 minutes walk from La Ramblas, but the walk is though a very rough area, full of prostitutes, and other unsavoury characters. We found it easier to walk down the street to the port and then back... More

This hotel has much to commend it: clean, spacious and comfortable rooms, excellent beds and a decent breakfast buffet. Although the metro station is right outside other aspects of the location are quite unsavoury. The streets between the hotel and La Rambla are full of down and outs, prostitutes, people openly smoking dope and pickpockets. My husband was physically seriously... More

Just back from a week here. It's an excellent hotel. Rooms are great. Reasonably priced mini bar and loads of daily free toiletries. They even have really good piped music which is cool these days. The beds are huge with lovely linen changed daily. Aircon and spotlessly clean. Breakfast is first class. Loads of lovely fresh food that gets replenished... More

Great place to stay. The metro stop is on your door step! It is close to Las ramblas & also only about 20 minute walk to the magic fountains & the shopping centre. The hotel staff were very helpful telling us where everything was. They went out of their way to help you. The hotel is very clean & the beds... More

The hotel is very convenient to the Las Ramblas, the metro is right there (but we walked everywhere) great restaurants in the area, nice front office staff (especially Carlos) and the breakfast is very good. The rooms were roomy and clean and the bathroom was to die for but if you like quiet better get in back of hotel..this is... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
