It was our 3rd consecutive year for coming back to El Balcon del Born for me and my husband just because we had accumulated a lot of good experiences of staying here and enjoyed exploring Barcelona by the owner, Pablo, Roberto and Anna’s good suggestions and recommendations. B&B is situated in an ideal location for exploring the city. The room... More

My husband and I recently stayed at Balcon del Born and I can't say enough lovely things about it. The location is perfect. The Born neighborhood is absolutely wonderful with tons of delicious restaurants, and it was a 10min walk to the beach. We had one of the rooms with a balcony that overlooked a really adorable square -a perfect... More

Anna took excellent care of us from start to finish. This place is lovely , clean and well appointed. This location puts you right in heart of this historic neighborhood in Barcelona. There was a heat wave when we visited Barcelona and walking had given us blisters but we could just sit in the room and enjoy the street from... More

The building was a little more worn then expected but we considered it part of the 'character' of a place in the old town. This location was wonderful. Full of cafes, lively in the evening with lots of people, and well lit passage ways at night. Beware it is not air conditioned, which we take for granted in N.America, but... More

Relatives have stayed in this bed and breakfast hotel in the previous visits to Barcelona so we opted to stay in this hotel also. Research on TripAdvisor about this hotel showed many positive reviews. Reservations were done online but actual payment (in Euro) was done at the front desk. Breakfast was standard but that was expected. The staff spoke English... More

Just charming. A great find in a fabulous city. It helped that I fell in love with Barcelona but El Balcon del Born was totally part of the experience. I was concerned as the price seemed very reasonable (too reasonable for a major European city) and I do prefer my own bathroom. However I don't think I ever saw anyone... More

A very sweet, calm, comfortable, welcoming, happy B&B five-night stay. And we didn't want to leave. Anna awesome and so is Tom who helps her keep the place impeccable. No issues at all with shared bathrooms. The area is lively with great international flavor in shops, restaurants, bars, crowds in the narrow, winding old pedestrian streets which surround El Balcón.... More

This is the place to stay in Barcelona if you can get in! It just oozes what Barcelona is. Noisy when you open the balcony windows, as you soak up the sights and sounds of after 8 Barcelona - but quiet and restful when the windows are shut and it is time for sleep ( is there any time for... More

We were staying next door at La Casa de Marcelo and wanted another night in Barcelona so we moved next door to el Balcon del Born. Lovely spacious rooms with kitchen, dining room and balcony overlooking the little alleys of Barcelona. Pablo our host was very attentive and friendly. In the heart of the nice part of town with everything... More

We visited Barcelona on the last weekend in May. We wanted a more authentic down to earth experience and were not disappointed. The B&B totally lives up to its reviews... We stayed in Room 1 which I believe is the largest room with a shared bathroom. Firstly concerns I had were a) the shared bathroom (who wants to shower in... More

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
