Our first stop (and again a month later as our last!) on our Spanish holiday the Caledonian was a smooth slide into getting acclimatised to the European weather and lifestyle. Staff were very helpful (more pillows) and the room was small but clean. No extractor fan in the bathroom but that proved to be the norm in most of the... More

Great location and good value for a single room - friendly and helpful staff. The beds are not that good but that is normal for this price range in Spain. Okay free wifi can not complain about it - but best is the location close to metro and city center - Ramblas and Paseo de Gracia .

If you want a nice clean hotel within a 5 minutes walk from La Ramblas then I would recommend the Caledonian. It's a no frills establishment offering basic breakfast and I found it a perfect location for the price. The staff were friendly and helpful and they were able to book some of the tours available for the many attractions... More

Emailed before visit to ask for quiet rooms. Reply came within a few minutes, we were given single 508 and king size double ( had asked for twin) for myself and grand daughter. Managed ok though. Rooms were at the back and quiet. Good choice, buffet breakfast. All staff helpful. Very central, buses, metro, La Rambala. Basic amenities, but all... More

The hotel was nice, and the staff helpful. We had a triple room and the third bed was a pull out sofa which wasn't that comfortable, also it somewhat blocked access to the room. In addition we found that the air con didn't work that well. The bathroom has a shower/bath and has plenty of room and a little under... More

I stayed here for several nights whilst on business. The room I had was on the small side, and rather poorly lit (I even considered buying a stronger slight bulb for the desk lamp), and the bed was small too, but on the plus side, the room was well cleaned, and was unusually quiet for a central city hotel. The... More

I stayed for three nights over the Moto gp weekend in a single room. The room is small but for one person, it was adequate. It had a nice bathroom and the wifi worked very well, Reception staff were very friendly and all that I spoke to spoke very good English. The location is great with easy access to La... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
