We read reviews on this hotel so expected the small rooms and the alley to walk down to get to the room. None of this came as a surprise. However the location and the beauty of this hotel far outways those small issues. If you want to be on the heart of the ramblas and feel like you are staying... More

We loved this hotel. We were offered an upgrade to the Ramblas Suite & it was superb with its own lounge area and large terrace. Free, fast wifi, excellent service and food together with a fabulous location. Will definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of April. Tucked down a side street off La Ramblas, this hotel is beautiful, they have maintained the historic aspects of the building but modernised it very sympathetically. We had a boutique room which was lovely, staff were great especially the barman on the roof terrace, which is one of the... More

well I have to say it was with excitement at the thought of returning to the Espana as I have stayed here before and loved the hotel and its wonderful restaurant. That was back in 2003 and 2005 and since then the hotel has been upgraded to a 4 star hotel so I couldnt wait to check in . Sadly... More

This was our second stay at the Hotel Espana, once again the Staff (front desk, bar and restaurant) are attentive and helpful. The rooms are spacious and VERY clean. The restaurant serves great dishes at affordable prices. The rooftop bar is brilliant! The location of the Hotel is spot on for tourists whom wish to stay in the heartbeat of... More

Fabulous hotel in a perfect location just off La Rambla. Lovely boutique style rooms although the hotel is stylishly older. Rooftop bar a must for cocktails. Staff excellent. No complaints whatsoever.

Very nice location and so convenient to see everything. I had gotten ill on the plane and the staff was so helpful and let us check in early since we arrived at 11am. Everyone on the staff was helpful in all ways. The lightening in the bathroom was a bit difficult for applying makeup - very modern looking but not... More

Nice room with terrace, 5 minutes from the Rambla, Liceu and Metro. Most Points of Interest in walking-distance. The hotel is situated in a quiet pedestrian zone. The hotel is a gem with beautiful 'modernisme' interior and handcrafted decoration. Staff and service: excellent Should we visit Barcelonay again - we will stay the the 'Espana'! Gebhard & Elke

Great location in the Gothic and surrounding areas of Barcelona. Many attractions can be reached by foot. The hotel is modern and well-appointed but the only real drawback of our otherwise quiet room (though a bit small for extended stays) was the awkwardly designed bathroom especially the internal glass doors and lack of fan-forced ventilation above the shower or toilet... Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
