One of the best B&Bs we have stayed in (and we've stayed in a few). Great location in the Born, a few minutes walk to the Picasso Museum, the Cathedral, metro stations and railway. A beautiful house, an excellent, caring host in Olivier, great restaurant recommendations, helpful suggestions re booking museums, entertainment, travel plans etc. Good wine available, honesty bar... Casa Marcelo is perfectly located in the heart of the old city, with tapas bars, small alley ways, boutique shops and many sights right in front of your doorstep. The building with its high ceilings and classic tile floors was the perfect complement to this historic city. In addition, Olivier was a great host, very responsive, super helpful and always... The location is very good. El Born has a lot of good restaurants, narrow streets, and beautiful old buildings. It's a very nice area for walking. Room #3 was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was good, especially the bread. Olivier is very kind and very helpful. He has good recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. We would definitely stay... More

First, the location of this B & B is great. Right out the front door, you are in the center of Born district, which has the old charm that you are looking for in an European city with rich history. Second, the host, Olivier makes the guest feel like being home. He is helpful and gives guests personal recommendations on... More

Cosy pension with helpful hosts, explaining and giving good advice about the neighborhood and Barcelona in general. Room was nice, breakfast good, but simple (great bread!). The location was just perfect, smack in the middle of Born, with nice restaurants right outside and the metro a couple of minutes away. Would definitively come here again, and can recommend it warmly... More

We spent 2 nights at Casa Marcelo at the beginning of December 2014. The booking process was easy and we received a prompt confirmation. We telephoned Olivier from the airport to say we were on our way so he was there to greet us. We arrived before the allotted check in time but this didn't seem to be a problem... More

This B & B has a great location and a friendly, courteous staff making it a great place to stay. Marcelo and Olivier are very helpful with suggestions getting around Barcelona. The area is very close to the Picasso Museum and has very nice tapas bars within walking distance. The hotel itself is excellent serving a continental breakfast and we felt very... More

I stayed here for three days and found the location to be perfect. The area (El Born) is full of great little boutiques, good places to eat and drink and some of the attractions such as Santa Maria del Mar and the Picasso Museum. The metro is fantastic with stations never more than a few minutes' walk away but I... More

Marcelo, Olivier, and their wonderful staff, make staying at Casa Marcelo the only choice for us in the future. They are more than willing to help plan your days and help with suggestions to get around town and where to eat to avoid the crowds. Everything was spot on. You can even enjoy the internet at the tapas bar across... More

What an excellent position, close to main railway station, the beach, cafés, historical sights. Being able to return and relax in the afternoon before heading out to dinner was a bonus also. When we had a major trauma with our travel card, Oliver was very supportive and walked us through to a solution. We were very grateful for his support,... More

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
