My husband, another couple, and I spent a terrific day and night at this stunning, elegant hotel. I think it is the nicest hotel I have ever experienced. The lobby is large and magnificent, with very friendly and competent staff. The central lobby is huge and comfortable with much seating. Right outside it, there is a lovely balcony looking out... Approaching the hotel is a jaw dropping experience. A handsome building in beautiful gardens, set within the city walls and only a stone's throw from the escalator to the historic centre. It's pretty reasonably priced give all of that and the rooms are quite pretty. But they are very small and the bathroom too - a bit of a one... More

Hostal del Cardenal is a quaint and charming choice for a stay in Toledo. HOTEL: The hotel was apparently the private residence of the Cardinal of Toledo way back in the day, and it has the intimate feel that fact would suggest. It is a small hotel of two levels housed in a beautiful Spanish/medieval building at the foot of... More

Our concierge at our hostal in Madrid recommended staying here as opposed to the beautiful Parador. He said, check-in to The Hostal Cardenal in the late afternoon, drive to the Parador above Toledo just before sunset, sit out on the the patio of the Parador and have a glass of wine watching the sunset over beautiful Toledo ... it will... This building once housed the Cardinal of Toledo, and the walls of the city form part of the hotel. It is located right off the highway so you can get to it without trying to negotiate the small, twisting roads of the city. The city now has a series of escalators that take you to the sights above the hotel.... More

The hotel has great location and lots of character, unfortunately the experience was totally let down by the front desk staff. The three reception staff we encountered varied between unfriendly and unhelpful, disrespectful and rude and from evasive to non-existent. One of them did not want to recommend any restaurant in the city other than the one in the hotel.... More

We stayed here Christmas Eve and a couple of nights after. The building, gardens, etc are stunning. Loads of character, part of the city walls, huge thick doors. And we had a decent size room. A few negatives though: 1. In spite of being mid winter, everything indoors was hot. The room and bathroom were overheated so we were very... More

We stayed at the Hostal del Cardenal 2 nights in October. This is a uniquely beautiful place with a large walled well-designed garden and pleasant rooms where you can sit and relax. There's a high-end restaurant on premises, too. Our room was large and traditional with modern amenities. There was a small sitting/reception room just outside our bedroom. The bed... More

This hotel is located very close to the Puerta de Bisagra and feels elegant, historic, and old-world, yet luxurious. The beds were very comfortable, service was perfect. The only problem is there are some stairs and no elevators. I can imagine in summer how relaxing it would be to enjoy the garden, but it was freezing out! Price was excellent... More

-had a 3 night stay here and the promotional photos do it justice. Great building that gives the feeling that you are living inside the stone walls themsleves and in a way, you really are. -the service was attentive and the balconies are fabulous. It is in close proximity to the amenities in the old city but a bit of... More
