Ok, if you can't cope with steps this isn't for you. But if you love atmosphere, history, architecture, gardens with shade, rills and fountains then get booking. Set (literally) in wonderful Toledo's ancient city walls, you will not be disappointed (other than in breakfast perhaps - but it is optional so go find a pavement cafe for a little people-watching).

Your stay will be in a historic Cardinal's Palace that is some hundreds of years old, so there are challenges. First, the hotel is built into the city walls, and hence there is no direct parking at the hotel. There is a very small parking area directly outside (we were lucky, I got parking at the door!) and an underground... More

I booked this hotel because we like historic accommodations. Previous reviewers have commented on the stairs, and yes there are stairs to get into the hotel and then more stairs to your room, but if you ask the front desk for help with your luggage they will get someone. A young man was sent to the public parking lot to... More

Build in the 1700s by order of a Cardenal, this restored mansion is a lodging to store in our memories. Our rooms, decorated in antique furniture were adjoining with a living room and large balcony overlooking old tiles roofs and ancient towers. The food was delicious and the dining room elegantly restored as was the rest of this gorgeous place.... More

A group of us stayed one night in the hotel. I endorse many of the previous comments regarding parking and the "steps". We were lucky and found a parking spot immediately outside of the hotel around 6PM and thus fed the meter for two hours and we were set for overnight. There are many steps into the hotel and if... Arrive at the hotel and you'll quickly discover that there are quite a few stairs to climb before reaching the lobby. As you huff and puff your suitcases up the various stairs, you'll notice a wonderful garden, little fountains and no one to help you. Service is nonexistent. You'll find one man behind a desk whose English is also practically... More

We had been traveling in Portugal and Spain for 3 weeks when we arrived at Hacienda del Cardenal. The location is terrific. Close to the escalator to the old city, restaurants and other local sights. First, know that getting your luggage into the hotel is a chore. Hauling it up nearly 50 stairs will get you breathing the local air.... More

I reviewed this lovely hotel a few years ago. Returned last month to find that nothing had changed for the worse -- it is still the most delightful hotel in which to stay in Toledo. It exudes calm, quiet and coolness, both inside the beautiful building (a summer retreat of the Cardinal-Archbishops of the primatial see of Spain), and in... More

The hotel is a beautiful and a perfect place to enjoy a relax time and feel the vibe for the city. The people is so nice and happy to help you. The location is perfect just a meters for the electric escalators to the city. Just in case be ready to walk the steps to get into the reception with... More

Loved the location just at the foot of the escalators to the city. There were 48 steps to get into the reception area which can create a challenge with luggage. Some rooms had a lot of light and some rooms were quite dark. The water coming out of the pipes was slightly discolored so we drank bottled water. The room... More
