Fell on it by chance as our daughter is at the university and has a flat on the same road. The staff we encountered were efficient and friendly, the buffet breakfast was excellent and the room was warm and spotlessly clean. The hotel has a really nice ambiance, a mix of new and old done out really well. Our room... More

We chose this hotel on price, availability and convenience for a first overnight stop after the Ferry crossing. It was not easy to find in a very long road with few house numbers, but we found it on the second pass, tucked away behind a small entrance gate! It is a Training college hotel but out of term the restaurant... More

The sat nav found the hotel and the walled car park was good. Initially the trainee receptionist gave us a room that had an unmade bed but on our return we were given one on the 1 st floor that opened out onto a 1 st floor terrace over looking the pretty garden. We took advice and got he 5... More

My husband and I drove up from our home in Portugal last Easter time, 2012 and found it easily. We had chosen it as it was reasonable for the one night we wanted to stay on our way out to Britain on the ferry - and later back again for one night before we drove home. Our room was old... More

We enjoyed our stay during a cool month of the year- September. I didn't see any air conditioner and the windows can be difficult to open. So it might be a bit miserable in a hot month. But for a cool month, the place was very good. We had a good sleep. The continental breakfast was satisfactory. The staff was... More

Considering this hotel has ties to a hotel/food school, I was surprised at the below average level of service. The reception person was not very friendly at check-in or check-out. The breakfast selection was lacking and did not appear to be attended to. Lightling in the room was poor. Noise from the roadway was loud. I do give the housekeeping... More

Had a little difficulty finding this hotel, but pleased we stayed. Comfortable and near enough for catching an early ferry. Staff were friendly. Room was comfortable with an adequate breakfast. I loved the gardens. Would stay here again

Stayed here for one night before catching ferry back to U.K. Staff were very welcoming and as helpfull as they could be. The room, as was the hotel, was very clean and comfortable. Bathroom also very clean with a great shower, powerfull, and plenty of very hot water. No air-con but thankfully it went cool at night so would not have... More

I was looking forward to my short stay (3 nights) at this hotel having read very favourable reviews. What a shock. Only one of reception staff spoke English and breakfast was very disappointing (tinned ham and one cheese, no salad vegetables, croissants, 3 or 4 types of fruit, cereals, tea or coffee). Dinner when you could take it was at... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Las Carolinas Hotel-School is located within a plot of land with the same name, "Las Carolinas", and is managed by the Cantabrian Hotel and Catering Business Association. Young catering students and chefs are trained here. It occupies a XIX century restored mansion which has 500m2 gardens with two splendid magnolias and a thousand-year-old yew, among other specimens. It subsists in a truly rural environment within the city. Las Carolinas Hotel-School is also located at the top of a hill with spectacular views of Santander and is only 10 minutes away walking distance from the city centre. The Hotel School Project aims to endow the catering and hotel industry with qualified personnel. It seeks to do so by training professionals within the industry's different fields of work. All of the association's training activities are gathered within this single space. These training programmes have been designed to be both theoretical and practical, focusing on kitchen, dining room and hotel management. In order to offer adequate training, there is nothing better than a training centre where students can put the theory they have previously learnt into practice. The main building has thus been turned into a small hotel with 13 rooms and a dining room with a capacity for 40. It operates as a conventional hotel and catering business. The rooms at the Hotel School are decorated in s simple manner, with light wooden furniture and floors. They are all equipped with two beds or a double-bed, a desk, central heating, a bath, a hairdryer and amenities. To start the day off, a full buffet breakfast is also included within our accommodation price. During the academic period, a menu is offered at lunch time which includes an appetizer, a first course and a second course. On Thursday and Friday evenings we prepare a sampling menu. All meals must be booked in advance. All the services at the hotel school are offered by industry students and workers, with a special focus on personalization and quality. ... more   less
