Large room with everything needed. Bars and restaurants outside the door. We arrived late and left the next day so weren't there for long. Reasonable place for Bilbao but for a bit more money lots more options that are more plush if preferred

I liked the people, they are really nice. Our room was simple, but clean. Unfortunately there was no sunlight, it was really dark. I think in summer it would be a cool room, at this days we had a heating. The location is great, you are in the middle of the centre, near Metro and the river. You have to... More

The location of the hostal is excellent, in the heart of old town. We spent 2 nights here. The rooms were clean, but a bit small. The only problem was that the owner made us pay on cash, although we wanted to pay with a credit card, pretending he didn't know how to use the credit card machine.

The location of the Hostal Mendez is excellent just between of the old and new town. Some stylish details make the house special - old stairs and 2 figures of dogs. Rooms are rather small and not well equipped. Wi-fi works slow. Owners seem to be afraid with later payment and expect you pay before get your keys.

Friendly owner with very little english ability. Set in an old building in the heart of old town. Beautiful, somewhat unrestored staircase to the first floor setting. Simple, clean rooms with balconies on the street side and yet quiet when the doors were closed. We looked at one room in the back but it smelled a little musty. No frills... More

There are two levels of accommodation at this address. I stayed in the more basic in 2006 and even though it was acceptable, I decided on this visit to say in the slightly more expensive pension on the first floor. (I think they are owned by the same people) This time the man who showed me to my room, did... More

Although I had booked a single room, and was quoted a rate of 25 euros at the time of reservation, the staff insisted on charging me 30 euros on my arrival because the only remaining room had two beds (though I was traveling alone). As it was the evening of a holiday weekend, I had no choice but to stay.... More

Booked by mistake and too much trouble to change once I was there, nevertheless, this basic hostal was excellent value for money. No breakfast but the beds were very comfortable (and I, a slipped disc sufferer!), and the whole place was spotless. Cash only I'm afraid-too unsophistocated for credit cards.Fantastic position in the centre of the old quarter. Fall out... More
