Unlike a recent post we experienced nothing bad about this hotel. Every member of staff was incredibly helpful. Thanks for getting us to some superb restaurants and bars; that was great assistance for us as we had never been to your beautiful city. Undoubtedly we could find minor fault but in our opinion that would be nit picking considering the... More

The Lopez de Haro was sold to us as a charming little 5 start hotel in the center of Bilbao. Indeed, it is in the center of the city, everything else is questionable. It probably was a charming hotel 40 years ago, now it's just old. We could hear all kinds of noises: doors, people's steps, coughing. But most annoying... More

There are no facilities such as gym pool or spa but good location for city break. Reception staff efficient and friendly. Didn't eat here but had a drink in the bar reasonably priced wine. A lot of bars nearby just opposite is El figon for wine and pinxtos all very good and .€1 each excellent value. We had breakfast at... More

I went with a group and someone else did the booking so I was amazed and delighted to find I was staying in a room decorated in a modern contemporary style just like the picture in my (rather rah) Wallpaper guide. Loved it! Clean, fresh and modern. Apparently these are the standard rooms. The ones to go for in my... More

The good: 1) Quaint charm to the decor; 2) Staff are great and very friendly; 3) Location is very good. The bad: 1) Rooms are seriously outdated, very rough around the edges, with only partial refurbishment in the last 20 years and are missing much of what would be expected in a hotel of this class (no slippers, no ironing... Unhelpful staff. Was told I had booked a double room when I had specifically booked a twin and had to pay to upgrade to twin. Watch who you book with on trivago. The alternative room was in the roof and was freezing cold and damp. Nothing worked and the last time it was refurbished I am sure the gas lamps... More

Spent 3 nights here whilst visiting Bilbao. Check in was quick and efficient. My room was on the 9th floor and faced inwards so was nice and quiet. The room itself was clean but a little small (just being picky). Breakfast was located in a small restaurant on the first for and when I got there it was quiet. It... More

This hotel was a very good base for exploring Bilbao - it is within a short walk of pretty well anywhere you might want to go - the Guggenheim, the Fine Art Museum, the old town, the new town/shopping area. Recommended - we would stay there again

This was a great find on our adventure - no booking - we just turned up - and got lucky. For a one night stay en-route to Portugal this was a more interesting stay than a budget chain. And the price was reasonable too. We liked the styling in the hotel both the communal areas and the bedrooms and it... More

Chose this hotel as my favourite one in town seemed to be fully booked. Pluses, 1) very, very central location, bar almost in front of it has a very good selection of fantastic tapas too, 2) staff very nice and helpful Minuses, 1) decor takes you back to the 1950s, and not to the best examples of 1950 design either...very...
