The Amalienhof is surprisingly good in a number of ways. My husband & I got a "double room/apartment" for only 97 euros (I just asked for a double room)--spacious, complete kitchen w/dishes, pans, wine glasses, etc--everything we needed for a pleasant dinner "at home" for a change. It was in a separate building behind the hotel & quiet except for a few (Saturday night) young people out on the street at unfortunate hours. Very nice, positively elegant breakfast included in the hotel. Also, a number of buses stop at the corner in front of the hotel (Wieland Platz)--both from the Hauptbahnhof & to/from Buchenwald (a very worthwhile excursion). Of course, too, you have Goethe for a neighbor & Schiller & the rest of the gang aren't far away.
