It's a state of mind.

This hotel is hundreds of years old (though the current building dates from 1938, with complete renovations in the 1950s and 1990s). It is beautiful, with Art Deco style and modern art; and the staff is very accommodating, as one would expect from this caliber of hotel. They were always ready to assist with directions, etc. My room was enormous,... more

Historic hotel is in a great location. The breakfast dining room is an extravagant example of art deco.... a real treasure. Staff most helpful, assisting with bike hire. A bike from the hotel rack is the best way to see the town. Excellent beds as usual in Germany more

This hotel is the most famous in Weimar and if you want to stay where well-known names in German culture (& some from history, famous & infamous) have stayed, this is it. Or at least, this is the site, as the hotel that was built in the 16th century was replaced by this building in 1938. The location is excellent,... more

We recently stayed two night in this hotel. As most reviewers stated it is very centrally located in Weimar, which is by far its most important asset. We paid 160 Euros per night for a "luxury room", plus 13 Euros for parking and 20 Euros for breakfast (now folks, that's 32 US Dollars!). All in all rather expensive given the... more

Although in a historic building the interior is modern and a little dull, although the original lithiographs by Becker and Dix and letter of approval from Thomas Mann are splendid and not trumpeted, just there if you like looking at art There is a nice garden and breakfast was first class relaxed and included in the rate. There is secure... more

Stayed overnight on the way to Poland. I make this trip once a month and have stayed at the Russicher Hof, which i would recommend. The Elephant is though situated in a much better location, the public rooms, especially the bar and restaurant are particularly attractive. Although this is a Starwood, not something I would normally recommend, the Elephant is... more

I booked this as a supposedly luxury treat on the way to Poland. What a gloomy and disappointing arrival with unsmiling staff and not a floral arrangement to be seen in the imposing foyer. This was reflected in the gardens despite the pictures on the website. The room was small and stuffy as there is no aircon (found out later... more

Hotel is in best possible location in town. smack in the middle. but... rooms have no air conditioning and if you are facing the front of the hotel, you might hear the noise from outside However, staff is attentive, rooms are in excellent shape, and food is truly great. I would definetly stay there, just not in the middle of... more

Have just spent 4 nights in this truly comfortable hotel. Fluffy robes, warm rooms, large bathrooms and breakfasts which lacked absolutely nothing. Despite a great location right in the centre, the room we had was very, very quiet. In fact we thought we were the only ones there until we went down to breakfast in the mornings! Highly recommended and... more
