It is a really nice hotel and is worth its 4 star rating. The reception staff are very curteous and professional and, fortunately for us, spoke a little English. The rooms are incredibly comfortable and nicely set out. The breakfast is good; a typical German buffet. Parking in the car park is free as is street parking, however underground parking has a small fee.

The hotel is in a residential area so probably misses out on the general tourist trade to Magdeburg. Saying that, it took us 20 minutes to walk into the Altstadt (it took 20 minutes on the tram the first time we stayed there).

This is the second time we (husband and I) have stayed at the Geheimer Rat. The first time we turned up and requested a room. The second time we made an online booking (you can generally find the cheapest rates through the Best Western website rather than the rest of the online booking sites).
