Great hotel with very friendly staff. It is located in a unique quarter of Essen - the "Margarethenhöhe" which is a workers quarter laid out as a garden city from the early 20th century. Located at the central market place of this quarter you feel like diving into the athmosphere of that periode. Despite of the authentic facade, the hotel... More

I booked an overnight stay for business purposes. It's in a very pretty setting and the evening meal was exceptional. For any goats cheese lovers, I would highly recommend the goats cheese with strawberry chutney in filo pastry! Staff are very professional and helpful and the room was lovely. Will definitely stay again.

stayed 3 nights while in Essen for business. Checkin smooth, as it should be, and room well furnished. All amenities that I expected, plus a few. Location is fairly close to tram stop, approx 10 minutes from centre. But teams less frequent in evenings than I expected. Wifi was free, but in my room was a bit weak. But in... More

The Margarethenhohe is situated in a lovely square at the centre of a planned garden suburb just outside Essen. The hotel is excellent in every way. It has a comfortable, light, modern interior and the rooms are comfortable. There was a kettle with tea and coffee in the room. It was easy to park outside and there is free wifi.... More

Stayed two nights visiting the "Spiel" game convention. Since I chose this hotel at random as many places closer were full I did not have high expectations. However I was very pleased. The location is in a historic "workers village" that has a very calm rural air to it - remarkable so close to central Essen but very welcome. 5... More

In a nice, quiet area outside Essen. Staff very friendly. We didn't have breakfast, but there is a very good coffee machine in the lobby. The restaurant is very good - fillet of lamb excellent. The room was clean, with tea & coffee. Very quiet. Has an underground car park as there is a small market outside the hotel on... More

We felt us very welcome in Mintrops Stadt Hotel Margarethenhöhe. When travelling by car, this hotel is a good choice, because it's outside of the city center, within reach of all the sights of the Ruhr area, especially Villa Hügel. It's in a quiet area, which ensures a good night's rest. Breakfast was great, as was the hospitality by the... More

I have travelled to Essen a lot over the last few years but had a short notice trip and city centre hotels all full. Hotel is a fair way out, but has a tram stop a couple of minutes away. We used taxis to the centre which cost €12 to €15. Also walked to the city centre , about 45... More
