I stayed here for a month as a part of an exchange program and it was a great experience. Staff was really helpful. I stayed here as part of a business trip to Essen. This is one of the most unusual places I've stayed in. This is all about value. The hotel is in fact part of a student/cultural affairs complex (be sure to fhave the address on you: taxi drivers don't seem to know where it is).
