Althought the rooms are clean and spacious, it is not a family hotel. The breakfast is good and varied, but the friendliness of hotel staff is service minded. The hotel is well located and easy to access the city, on foot. In overall, it is a good hotel, but certainly no better.

I give Exelsior 5-star rating because although advertised as a 3-star hotel, it has many advantages above it's rating. Room #: 335 Stayed: January 2015 Arriving to attend the Dusseldorf "Boot" Show, we were pleased with room 335. It's very quiet, very clean, with mini bar, adequate closet, hooks, and a good luggage bench (fits 2 carry-ons), 2 wing chairs,... More

Stayed here for three nights in December 2014 whilst visiting the Christmas markets and had a great stay. The hotel is only a short walk from the city centre , staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel itself was very cosy , clean and welcoming. The breakfast was amazing with something for everyone. The only downside is the... More

Could not fault this hotel. Room was spacious, with a lovely deep bath, and the breakfast was plentiful. The barman was lovely too, as well as the extremely helpful Reception staff. About 10 minutes walk into town, with quaint German bars en route to provide liquid sustenance. Explore the nearby Italian Quarter. We got lost once when walking back, but... More

Stayed in the Excelsior with a group for a birthday trip to Düsseldorf. The rooms were clean and comfortable with en suite shower/toilet. Breakfast was excellent - a great choice of pastries, meats, cheeses, cereals etc plus a hot selection. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful with directions and even assisted us with finding a good place to eat... More

A quiet, clean and comfortable hotel with friendly staff. An excellent breakfast was included with plenty of choice. Also in a good location within walking distance of old town. W would definitely stay here again when next in Dusseldorf.

We have just returned from a three night stay here. I can honestly say I wish it had been longer. Everything about this hotel ticks all the right boxes. Firstly, it is a privately owned hotel. Marjorie, the lady that owns it, is constantly available, so if there are any problems or queries she is there. And she is as friendly and... More

I traveled with my husband for him to attend the Medica conference. We had to stay in Krefeld during the actual conference week (due to unavailability of other hotels) but that Friday, we moved down to Dusseldorf and stayed in this hotel. We arrived at 10:30 or so and our rooms were already prepared - nice surprise. The exterior is... More
