We returned from this hotel on 6th December after an excellent 4 night stay in Cologne.

After reading reviews on Tripadvisor we feared we had made a bad mistake in booking the Kunibert but it was actually better than we expected.

We travelled with friends and arrived at noon - the walk to the hotel from Colognes main railway station/Dom Cathedral took less than 10 minutes. Although the rooms we had originally been allocated weren't ready. the person on reception shuffled bookings around so that we could immediately be given rooms ready prepared. Ours was front facing so had a lovely view of the River Rhine. OK it was a bit basic but spotlessly clean and with good quality white bedding (the bed was a double and rather soft just covered with two single duvets as we have found to be the norm in Germany and Switzerland). There was only one very soft pillow per person but, with a bit of difficulty, we managed to obtain a couple more from reception (our friends had similar problems obtaining blankets!).. The room had a wall mounted flat screen TV - the 2 English channels were BBC World and CNN but better than nothing - and two radiators that we could control the heat of ourselves. The bathroom was also spotlessly clean with a walk in/2 person shower that had oodles of hot water. We did find that house keeping was very late in the day - twice the rooms hadn't been 'done' before we returned so we said to forget it on those days as by then we just wanted to relax before dinner.

We ate in the hotel restaurant the first night that was comfortably furnished and charmingly decorated for Christmas; food was OK but service poor with squabbling between waiters as to whose table we sat at and we are still waiting for our change after paying for the meal!

We ate out for the rest of our stay finding many very good places close by for Breakfast and Dinner; we particularly enjoyed meals at Herings and The Angusto Steakhouse both just a few meters to the right of the hotel. Lunch was mainly cups of hot Gluwein at the excellent Christmas markets (nearest just 2 minutes walk from the hotel) and of course the Bratwursts had to be sampled.

All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Kunibert and may well stay there again in the future as we found the location ideal. By the way, on checking-out we had to pay a 5% City and Culture Tax which, luckily, we had been warned about before leaving home. As this wasn't mentioned at check-in it could come as a shock to guests not aware of this payment in advance.

Room Tip: Request a room at the front as these have river views - those at the rear just look into offices.

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights.
Location is great - close to Rhine, bars and Cathedral.
Bed was comfortable, room was not very big, but was adequate.
Nice view of the Rhine from our room. Room smelled of stale smoke, actually so did the whole hotel.
Room had a shower and toilet, which were clean and tidy.
Because of the location the price is quite high for what you get.
The biggest let-down as far as the hotel is concerned is the Reception staff.
We booked this hotel months ago and the week before we were due to stay I got an email saying they were going to cancel our reservation as our credit card got declined.
The hotel insisted it was because of lack of funds - which was definitely not the case !
It took a couple of phone calls to the hotel (from England at our expense) to convince them to try again (which they were reluctant to do) as our Credit card company confirmed the transaction was declined because the hotel entered the wrong security code !
No apology was given when the hotel realised their mistake.
After our stay, when checking out the Reception staff had great difficulty using their credit card machine (what a surprise !!!). It took them about 5 attempts - I better not get charged for them all !
In general I found the Reception staff very arrogant - because of this I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel was in a really great location on a cute street with bars and restaurants. We went to this great Thai place a few doors down. The rooms were spacious although outdated. The staff were welcoming and friendly. However the lift was horribly small and scary so if you don't like lifts be prepared to take the stairs.

Worst experience ever. Bad service and the servants made a lot of mistakes which where subsequently billed to the client. When the wrong drinks were delivered to the table, the server said they were on the house, because of our suspicions that they would not be, we didn’t touch them. Our suspicions were correct because the server said he could not deduct the untouched drinks from the bill. This was like a running joke within the restaurant because other tables had the same issues and we didn’t really see any happy clients. I would strongly recommend to go to one of the various other restaurants/bars in the area. Sorry to rant on the page here (it’s my fitst time) but I could not speak to the manager in the restaurant to let out all my frustrations regarding the service of his employees.

Went here for dinner one night as a family, staff started off very friendly and good food. We asked for two sides which were €4 but it was one side between two. Before paying for the meal the staff member insisted on a tip which we gave but without knowing they automatically add a tip to the bill on top of the tip you give. When we received our bill we were overcharged €44 for 6 drinks we didn’t order, when we told the staff member he insisted twice, “are we sure we didn’t get those drinks ?” and when we received the money back it wasn’t the correct amount.

Stayed here with my wife and son whilst we had a festive trip to Cologne. The hotel is in perfect spot, being located just between the Rhein, the dom and the old town. We found it ideal as it was just a few minutes walk to get to the two big Christmas markets there, plus the fabulous Peters Brauhaus is on the same street.

We found the staff at the hotel friendly and welcoming, they helped upon our early arrival and let us leave our cases there as we had a late flight home. We only used the attached restaurant a couple of times but again, the staff there were friendly and attentive. They made a fabulous effort with our three year old boy.

The facilities were good, the triple room we stayed in was comfortable and we didn’t have any issues during our stay.

We stayed here when visiting the Christmas Market in Cologne.
If your looking for fancy then this isn't for you, but it is a nice hotel and very close to the markets, the train station, and for walks along the Rhine.
There are plenty of places to eat around the hotel but if you want to eat here you can and the food and drinks are good i had no complaints.
would i stay again, probably yes due to the price and location, it was clean staff were nice food was good. just remember if you want fancy or 4 or 5 stars this isn't for you, if you want location and decent price and not really bothered about where you stay then this is a great place to stay!

Great location by the river, the room was clean, loads of bars and restaurants near by and only a 12 minute walk to the chocolate museum. Staff were lovely, funny and friendly. Ardeshir was particularly lovely and had great vibes.

Spent five nights here as a family in September. Perfect location, overlooking the river, and just a short walk from the main train station. Staff all friendly and helpful. Had good food out on the patio, where there are heaters and blankets for when the nights get chilly. Only criticism would be the housekeeping, although we saw that they were advertising for staff, so probably struggling to keep on top of it. Having said that, bedding, towels etc all clean. Would happily stay there next time we visit Cologne. Good value for a city hotel
