If you are above 6'4 you might have difficulties getting around in this building as most ceilings are quite low: But this is normal in these old buildings, just be careful. There is a bar in the cellar, an excellent gourmet restaurant, and another restaurant, all offering somewhat better fare than the fish and schnitzel menues around the town. The... More

The first thing to say is that this is the best hotel in a town which is much more captivating than you might think. The Hanseatic league built Stralsund, on the backs of trade and industry and left a legacy of a find port and impressive public buildings. It's a fifteen minute walk from the train station, little wheely bags... More

We stayed at the Hotel Scheelehof shortly after Angela Merkel did last spring, which is wicked cool. I planned a too-short visit to the Baltic coast during my first trip to Deutschland, and only wish I had dedicated more time to this lovely Hansestadt UNESCO World Heritage Site and its landmark hotel. We took the train from Hamburg to Stralsund,... More

Beautiful old hotel, tastefully modernised. Perfect location close to the old centre of Stralsund. Great facilities, attentive staff. It is a bit of a rabbit-warren, so not ideal for everyone, but I think it is the best hotel I have stayed in this year.

This was a wonderful hotel to stay in. It is beautiful, in a great place, had fantastic service and great food. We onlyt stayed two nights and were very sad to have to leave. It was hot - don't expect air conditioning - but we were up in the roof and the windows provided a breeze. We were happy to... More

Having read the reviews we had high expectations and were left very disappointed by our recent stay at this hotel. We had booked a junior suite but the room to my mind was just a large double. No air on meant the room was extremely stuffy or very noisy. We were pushed into booking a room for dinner, on check... More

Hotel Scheelhof is a great find in a city, Stralsund, which is rarely visited by American tourists. Located in the old city, it is near the magnificent old churches, the town square and everything else you would want to see in this Hanseatic city. The hotel's interesting aspects--the restoration and linking of several old buildings--is also potentially one of its... More

We booked a voucher over travelzoo based on the good reviews the hotel had on tripadvisor, booking, etc. We were not dissapointed. Even though we were one of the guests having paid less than the others, we treated like a normal guest. In this case, you can say like a king. From the receptionist to the waiters and cleaning ladies, everbody did... More

Stralsund is another hidden gem of small towns in the earlier East Germany (DDR) on the Baltic coast. The hotel Scheelehof is also a gem, it's old, very old, but gently restored and is now on Unesco's list. But even so, it has all modern facilities including sauna and spa. 4 restaurants and a pub (also serving food), one of... More

The carefully renovated building whose oldest parts date back to the glorious times of the Hanse in 1383 provides very cosy and comfortable rooms. The service is perfect, the interior demonstrates how modern amenities can be integrated into an old building. The normal restaurant "Zum Scheel" provides decent German food at reasonable prices. But do not miss the gourmet restaurant... More
