Stayed a night here on a around UK coast motorcycle ride. My mate and I stayed in the top twin room which was comfortable enough, clean, but perhaps a little cramped with no real space to stow our motorcycle luggage. Bathroom was clean as basic, the real treat was the harbour view of the fishing boats and naval vessels moving... More

We stayed at this hotel for two days so that we could undertake a day tour of the Orkney Island. It is located just down the road from the Ferry terminal (a 10 minute walk), so it was ideally located for that purpose. The hotel is an older hotel, so expectations were not high, but it was nonetheless a pleasant... More

In September I took a tour of the Orkneys and needed a place to stay that was near the ferry over to the Islands. The Ferry Inn fits the bill. The ferry is literally across the street. I came up from Glasgow on the train and arrived in Thurso. A few minutes by cab (or a few more by local... More

I have to admit I was a bit worried when we pulled up after getting off the ferry form Orkney. The outside looks a little gloomy and the smokers in the doorway don't help. However I was pleasantly surprised. Reception staff was excellent, the room was lovely, clean modern and comfortable. There were toiletries in the bathroom and nice white... More

Stayed 2 nights.... Staff were very nice and helpful.... Nothing was too much bother.... Food excellent and good value.... Room nice and clean ~ only slight complaint was touch damp on wall but coat of paint would soon sort that. Would defo stay again.

This is actually a very good hotel although not in a location you'd expect, but don't be put off. There is a proper bar that serves the locals, there is a TV so is also a sports bar. The restaurant is clearly very popular with the locals as a steak house, although I had fish. The steaks look amazing and... More

Rooms are pretty large and very clean. Bathroom also quite large, and a lot of hot water from the shower. Atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. And not the usual two sachets of coffee but at least 10. Very nice in the morning. The bar is certainly not the average hotel-bar. It's also the place of entertainment for the local bruisers... More

We had reservations about staying here but it turned out to be a good decision. Our room was big, modern and comfortable (room 1), no complaints there. For breakfast you have to go out of the front door and up to the restaurant, the non-cooked options were limited but what was provided was good. From the cooked selection we opted... More

Stayed here a few weeks ago for one night travelling along the coast from John O'Groats to Ullapool. We were given a room at the front on the first floor. Room was basic, but large and very clean. We were worried that being on the main road across from the harbour would mean a lot of noise but we didn't... More

We stayed here twice during our recent UK driving tour, using it as a base to explore the NE corner of mainland Scotland and to access a car ferry to and from the Orkneys. Although it's an oldish hotel, it's been well maintained and improved, has loads of good character and is blessed with an abundance of staff who could... More
