With a perfect situation in Altona, the Hotel Stephan is a good choice when traveling on a budget. The rooms are clean and decorated in an old-fashioned way. Since there is a garden on the back, it is a very peaceful surrounding. There is a good variety of choice for breakfast with typical German dishes like ham, salads and cheese.... More

Some travelers like staying in huge hotels where you are just a number while I always enjoy the smaller, locally owned hotels where the staff takes an interest in you and after a day or so know where you are from and call you by your first name. When I was doing my "homework" on where to stay in Hamburg... More

Stayed two nights in Stephan in a century-old room with high ceiling. Nice feeling and friendly staff. Room was facing the street and the church (being renovated) but as the area is quiet, keeping windows open was not an issue. For tourism, a bit off but easily accessible by S-Banh (five min walk) or bus (36 or scenic 111). Can... More

Stayed for 3 nights. Hotel is in a quiet street. Rooms are clean but very small. If you have no problem with that, you will have no problems at all. Hotel has a very nice garden at the back side, perfect for work and pleasure. It was built in 1903, as a maternity hospital, but some 40 years ago it... More

Our stay was for two nights and it was a good choice on our part. Tucked off two blocks from the busy Max Brauer Strasse, while close to pedestrian zone shops and the Altona train station, it is a peaceful location within the city. Public transportation is within steps and for the physically active visitor, nearby sights can be reached... More

We stayed at the Hotel Stephan for two nights. The decor is authentic German kitsch, price is reasonable, location pretty good, the service was good and the room was relative clean. The doors are very thin so any activity on the halls at night feels like you are having unexpected guests in your room. Did not try the breakfast.

The hotel and room was nice, but beware if you're staying on the ground floor by the reception! Other reviewers haven't commented on this, so guess it must just be the ground floor. The cleaners were crashing and banging extremely early in the morning. I had ear plugs in (am always prepared!) and even then the banging was terrible and... More

We were very lucky to have found this place (reading the good reviews on the internet). All the good reviews we read are true. Just a few negatives: - breakfast is NOT included in the price, it is +10Euro per person, - feather pillow and blankets. The hotel is located 8-10 minutes walking distance from the S-Bahn, in a very... More
