the intercontinental is located in rotherbaum, a bourgeois neighborhood, on the westbank of the aussenalster, the innercity lake of hamburg. round the corner of the american consulate, approx 10 min walk to the citycenter. the view from the hotel is beautiful if you have a lakeview, and in 1 minute you can start a nice jogging tour round the lake(7,4km,... more

We booked this hotel for the day we arrived in Europe, so we got to the InterContinental in the late morning, jet-lagged and no doubt disheveled. Service from arrival through checkout was impeccable; staff were friendly and helpful. We appreciated the lack of fuss about our early check-in. Our room was clean and well appointed. There was an excellent shower,... more

I have recently spent a week at the Intercontinental in Hamburg and I have to say that I was very disappointed. This hotel claims to be a 5 star hotel but from the experience I have had it surely can’t be. The room cost around £300 a night. For this I would expect a fantastic service, a view from my... more

hotel is old. also, as soon as we checked into our rooms we noticed the toilet was not working. they sent a repair man who was supposed to fix it but after he left we noticed it was STILL not working. had to get yet another repair guy. staff was snobbish throughout, no apologies. breakfast/brunch buffet was delicious, as it... more

The hotel is a very ordinary international chain hotel with little charm. The lobby is not particularly attractive. My room was an average size, with very bland decor, that is more suited to a 3 star property. The location is nice and quiet near the water, with plenty of free parking available. It is probably a bit too far though... more

Stayed with my wife and 2 youngsters (booked 2 deluxe rooms) in May. The sauna and steam room is not for the free use of hotel guests. Either you are a member of this so called fitness club or you have to pay Euro 15.00 per person extra. This is ridiculous. Nowhere does it say on the hotel's web page... more

The Intercontinental Hotel is a delightful choice while in Hamburg. Its location in a hign-end residential area proximity to the lake makes it a quiet and charming place to stay. The rooms are very large and immaculately clean. The hotel also serves a wonderful breakfast you will want to ensure is included with your room. The hotel staff is well... more

The Intercontinental Hotel has to be one of the nicest hotels in Hamburg. This hotel is very comfortable. The rooms are spacious and the restrooms are clean and come with the appropriate toiletries. This place is definitely 5 stars. The staff at the counter and at the bar were outstanding. English is spoken throughout. If you ask for a non-smoking... more

The Intercontinental in Hamburg is located in a quiet residential area about 15 minutes walk from the city centre. The hotel also has views from certain rooms out onto the Alster lake. The welcome I received was very pleasant, the front desk recognising my Ambassador status. Fruit and chocolates were put in my room. My room was of a generous... more

I stayed at this hotel for a long weekend with my family. We liked the location, as it's in a nice quiet (upmarket) suburb, a pleasant 15-20 minute walk from the city centre. Be warned though, this walk wouldn't be much fun in the rain, or for a lone female, however, there is a taxi rank outside the hotel. The... more
