4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2015

We stayed here for 4 nights in April 2015. It had been booked by our friends who came with us, on recommendation. When I read the reviews, my heart sank but I was worrying unnecessarily. The room was comfortable and clean and included a small kitchen. I slept well every night which is unusual. It was in a very quiet... More

The bedroom was ok, but if you are staying for several days,- we stayed one week- the place becomes stifling. There is no wifi, and no reception. The shutters didn't work properly, the owner said he would come next day to fix it but he didn't. He didn't even reply to our messages: The last day we asked him if... More

I stayed here for a full two weeks in Sept. 2012. Positives include: 1. Location- there are lots of cafes, bars, bakeries, quick stop mini-groceries nearby. There's also a large movie theatre & a shopping mall a few blocks away. Right across the street is Mauer Park, which has walking paths, playgrounds, and a super flea market each & every... More

English: As we visited a friend of us in Berlin, we booked a double room for 2 people for 2 nights in Pension Michael over the phone. Michael said that was OK and that he had a free room for us. He send us an email in German with the 2 dates written like that: 22.05.10-23.05.10 for 144 euros. That... More

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighborhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighborhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
