My friends and i have just returned from a weekend stay in the Winters Hotel Berlin Mitte Am Checkpoint Charlie. This was a pefect base from which to explore Berlin. As its name suggects, it is very near Checkpoint Charlie.. The rooms were good sized and spotlessly clean. The bathrooms were very well laid out. The huge variety available at... More

We stayed here in October 2013 over a long weekend and couldn't fault the hotel. Staff were so helpful and location was great if you intend to use public transport. Rooms were very clean and I'd definitely stay here again when visiting Berlin.

We stayed here on a mid week break in March. The hotel was modern, clean, very quiet with helpful informative staff. The beds were confortable but with rather odd pillows, bathroom was brilliant a full sized bath as well as a shower. We liked the fact that there was no air conditioning so we could open/ close the windows and... More

Winters Mitten is excellent value for money (4 stars hotel); it offers a nice breakfast buffet, free wifi, and bar, which offers drinks... More

I stayed here on a business trip and was extremely impressed with the cleanliness of the room, friendly staff and a good choice of breakfast in the morning. The Wifi extremely was useful and efficient. Not a bad thing to say about this hotel. Will definitely recommend.

I stayed for 1 night during a business trip in the Winters hotel. The location near Friedrichstrasse is really central but also quiet, no problems with street noises at all. Free Wifi did work well, the staff is friendly. The breakfast buffet is not too big, but with a really good choice and very high food quality, really enjoyed it.... More

The hotel was well enough fitted out, but soulless. Although it was rather eerie walking around check-point Charlie before crowds. It was good enough value, maybe more a hotel for business travelers. The reception staff were a little alof.

I booked the hotel through a website which doesn't let you see where you're staying until you've paid - and as a result got a nice room at a sensible rate. The hotel is lovely, clean and fresh. The room was large and there was a good en-suite. There was no iron in the room though, or tea-making facilities. The... More

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighborhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighborhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and 60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and 90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighborhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
