We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We had booked a deluxe room and they upgraded us to a junior suite as they had no deluxe rooms available - though didn't like the hard sell at checking in to upgrade to a large suite including better wifi , but seeing as they wanted almost 500 euros a night for... I stayed at the Hotel de Rome for three nights, and must say - it was a very pleasant stay. You enter into a large hall, perfectly styled with the attention to detail noticeable in all aspects of the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, both at reception and at breakfast - no waiting times at all. The... More

This is a stylish, property furnished in a contemporary style (it is typically Rocco Forte so understated class is the norm). The building is an old bank and the hotel keeps its history whilst modernising well. The Spa is located in the old jewellery vaults and the pool is lovely with golden mosaic floor. The property is located just off... More

Hotel de Rome is a solemn construction of the former Dresdener Bank on the east side of Berlin. It still reflects that. The location is perfect. Right in the middle and at walking distance of the most interesting spots. For the shoppers, 5 min from Friedrichstrasse, 20min to Checkpoit Charly. Lot and lots off shops, malls at 5 min walk.... Stayed here for one night on a mix of work and pleasure. Well located within walking distance of the major tourist spots and the business district. Our room was on the fourth floor over looking the Cathedral and was therefore quiet and had a decent view - I imagine most rooms would be quiet but some will face onto the... More

Walking distance to all historic sights, shopping and Christmas markets. Fabulous restaurants few mins away. The staff were so nice and helpful. This chic, smartly designed hotel has it all, great helpful service (especially knowledgeable concierges), luxurious rooms with smart appointments and an excellent location. The breakfast buffet was splendid, as was the high tea. Don't even bother with any other hotel, this is the one.

Stayed here on business. Hugely impressed with service and linguistic prowess of the staff. Good food, great tech squad on the business team and beautiful room with every detail mastered. Popped in for afternoon tea and as a Brit didn't expect much but was stunned by the Alice in Wonderland feast of goodies. For 30 euros that is an experience... More

We just returned from a week at Hotel de Rome, which is --as previous writers mention -- just about the best place to stay in Berlin. What made it special for us was the staff -friendly, efficient and welcoming without being overbearing and formal (ofen seen in 5 star hotels). The concierges were especially helpful, especially Benjamin, who took special... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
