At first thought very odd to find check in was inside a Chinese restaurant, never seen that before! Our guesthouse was a vey comfortable apartment, clean and with everything we needed. We were staying about 4 floors up and there is no elevator here, be warned!

First of all the hotel is hard to find. No signs on the buildings or street indicating where the hotel is. We spend about an hour in a taxi trying to find the location. When we finally did, they let us in till the lobby a very scary and dark stairs like inside of a bunker. When we got there... More

The apartment is marvelous. It is cozy, comfortable, and beautiful. Everything seems brand new: TV, kitchen utilities, bathroom, bed, sofa, etc.. My parents got the room and I slept on the couch at the living room. The couch is probably more comfortable than my bed at home. Wi-fi connection is fast. Breakfast is complete, (fruits, bread, eggs, cold cuts, juice,... More

I know that European standards are different than North American, but the room was a bit small, bed was ok. Staff was friendly and the room was in the inside of the building, which was very quiet. The location was good with very easy access to public transportation. I'd recommend this hotel if the price is good, otherwise I'd try... More

To attend the Berlinale film festivals in 2012 and 2013 I rented self catering apartments in the City Guesthouse Pension Berlin, each time for a 10 days period, where I stayed at the address Gleimstrasse nr 24 in the Prenzlauer Berg district. Unlike earlier years in hotels with usually crowded rooms, this time I had plenty of space for myself.... More

I like the option of a pension. It's like having an apartment to use as a home base when visiting temporarily at a very affordable price. I was hesitant to stay at this pension because there were no reviews on TripAdvisor yet. But I really wanted to stay in the Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood of East Berlin. I found the location... More

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighborhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighborhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
