Nikolai Residence is a jewel hidden in the old town of Berlin. We arrived early in the morning and yet they were nice to have a room for us ready. The hotel is quiet and very clean. Tea and coffee are offered. Staff are very helpful. They don't serve breakfast but there are plenty of cafes near the hotel.

5 minutes walk from Alexanderplatz station, very near the Roten Rathaus, Berlinerdom and in the prettiest part of Berlin (that we found!) the hotel has no eating facilities itself but is surrounded by bars, cafes and restaurants some of which offer discounts to hotel residents. It was well placed for the Christmas market in the Alexanderplatz, outside the Roten Rathaus... More

Excellent accommodation in Nikolai quarter in the area of Alexander Platz. Short walking distance to Alexander Platz train station. Plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining, and sightseeing. Convenient access to public transport. The neighborhood is very attractive, with narrow streets, welcoming restaurants, and small shops. The property is nice and clean. Rooms are spacious, and my even had a terrace.... More

Nice hotel, excellent service at the reception, very nice and competent people. Rooms are spacious and better than we expected. There is no air conditioning, although it was not a problem during our stay. Arriving late at night can seem a bit odd, as there is no one ate the reception. But ring the bell, someone opnes the door and... More

Very central to the city, near Berlin Alexanderplatz and other U-bahn and S-bahn stops and busses. In a small, postwar rebuilt area known as the Nikolai Viertel. Unfortunately, as of May, 2014, it has nearby subway construction marring the views for blocks, but this will change eventually. Hotel has lift. Rooms are large enough with a nice bathroom. Very modern... More

The Nikolai Residence is ideally situated in a quiet, historic, almost courtyard, street in the centre. Everything is spotlessly clean; the rooms are large, and half of them give onto a traffic-free courtyard; the bathrooms are well equipped. But you do need to take on board that there is NO service. We arrived after 9:00pm. The street door was locked,... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
