My husband and I recently went to Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Budapest. We stayed at the Bananas Berlin Guesthouse, and had a wonderful time. The room was large, clean, quiet and dark. The restrooms were plentiful and very clean and very big. The guesthouse is in a great location. Although the guesthouse was full, we rarely saw anyone else. We... More

We had a great experience at Bananas. We found the shared bathrooms very clean, large and plentiful. It seemed like the bathrooms outnumbered the bedrooms. We rarely saw other guests. Our bedroom was quite large and nicely furnished. The beds were large and very comfortable. Most importantly, our room was quiet and dark (with the curtains drawn) and comfortable for... More

Really good guest house bang in the middle of the gay scene and right next to the underground. The owner was there to meet me on arrival and was very informative and showed me around the guest house. There are 9 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms with showers 2 of which were really large. During my stay I never has a... More

Basic, simple accomodation in the heart of Schöneberg gay quarters. Very friendly staff. The rooms are basic, but ok for some days in Berlin. The place is very clean. Shared bathrooms and toilets are no problems. Coffeemachine in the livingroom. Close to restaurants in the neighbourhood. Close to public transportations. The Bananas is not luxury but recomended if you are... More

Don't let the inexpensive price and location fool you. Stayed here from 6/2/14 to the 8/2/14. Although we didn't get the pleasure to meet the owners they were an amazing help whenever needed via email. We were greeted by a gentleman who showed us to our room and explained where bathrooms are and how to use kitchen equipment. Tea and... More

I stayed in Berlin for a week in September 2013 and Bananas Guesthouse is in a great spot, right in Schoneberg. The owner was very helpful (even with his broken English and my awful German) and managed to meet me quite late at night after a delayed arrival by train. There is no reception at the guesthouse, so it's best... More

Once I found the place as street lighting in Germany is very bad, Owners couldnt have been more friendly and the room was more then adequete and spotless and so were the bathrooms and very big too. Hotel is very close to transport links and to the gay scene of schoberg. No hesitation in staying here again, highly recommended.

I've just returned from a visit to Berlin where I stayed at Bananas Guesthouse. Excellent location and accommodations. I arrived late in the evening but the owner still met me and offered me great information on local restaurants, bars, etc. and made sure that I was settled in for a comfortable stay. The Guesthouse is impeccably clean and my room... More

For the money, this is hard to beat. Excellent, clean well looked after rooms. A bit quirky- with inflatable banana in the rooms. Owners very helpful despite me arriving late at night. Quiet yet near all the fun of Schoneberg.

The guesthouse is located on the ground floor of a building. The single room was small but ok. Well located in the gay area. The only problem is the noise at night. Shared bathrooms are large. Good wi-fi connection and living room.

Staying in Schoneberg

Neighborhood Profile
Schoneberg
In 1963, Schöneberg was the center of the political west, inspiring John F. Kennedy to choose this area to famously announce, "Ich bin ein Berliner." Times may have changed, but modern-day Schöneberg still pays tribute to its historical legacies. Once the richest city outside of Berlin proper, the area's affluent past is still visible in ornate housing facades dating back to the Gründerzeit of the 19th century, while residents in fur coats walking their dogs or shopping in high-end KaDeWe continue the tradition with a modern flair. Schöneberg was also once the center of the decadent and burlesque nightlife of the 1920s. It was here that Marlene Dietrich partied with Christopher Isherwood and the first gay bar in Germany was founded. Today, the gay community still revolves around Nollendorfplatz. The overground Ubahn station is even illuminated in rainbow colors, paying tribute to Schöneberg's progressive past.
