I had been there only two nights in the middle of december and enjoyed my stay a lot. The rooms are very clean and spacious. Beds are a bit noisy when you're moving but apart from that I had an excellent time, thanks very much.

Really enjoyed this hostel, exactly what you would expect, nice and clean, good value for money. The only suggestion for improvement would be a lounge or communal area where you can socialise at the end of the day. Kitchen/dining room closes at night. Also it is in a very nice area of town with lots of cool pubs!

I loved staying at this hostel, the staff were excellent and so friendly and helpful. The bar is only a fridge unfortunately but the kitchen area is great. It is a very quiet hostel and not the best for meeting new people but still a very good experience. Location is good as it is not on a very busy street... More

This is one of the best hostels I ever stayed at. We had a 4-bed dorm. It was clean and the room was big enough. The bathroom was okay, I never had to wait in a line to shower and I had enough place to put all my stuff. The staff is really nice as well. They show you the... More

Although we didn't stay at Alcatraz they were generous enough to let us store our luggage there the entire day. Reception and management was very nice about this! Great location in Mitte around a lot of bars and restaurants.

I really enjoyed our stay at Alcatraz hostel. It's a really funky place, decorated with artwork and has a cute courtyard. Fully equiped kitchen, good wifi downstairs and cheap breakfast option (we didn't use it though). We booked last minute so stayed in a private twin with shared bathroom. The shared bathroom was only with one other room though so... More

Stayed here for 6 nights with my girlfriend at the start of September. We arrived quite early in the morning, due to an early flight and weren't able to check in until three. The receptionist was really friendly and allowed us to store our bags in the hostel as we went in to Berlin for the morning. Checked in no... More

I really enjoyed my stay at Alcatraz- the staff are very friendly and give excellent recommendations of the best places to go in Berlin! I stayed in a 6 bed dorm which was more like an apartment as it had it's own seating area. Every Wednesday there is a free meal which is a really great opportunity to meet other... More

Definitely reccommend this hostel. I shared a six person mixed dorm that has a living room area, two showers. The room is spacious, beds are comfortable and the showers were hot. WIFI is fast in the room and kitchen area. Location is good and the tube is a 5min walk. Staff are friendly. Met some really nice people! I would... More

Berlin is a fantastic friendly city and this hostel is the compromise between comfort and sharing. We stayed here for 4 nights in a triple room with shared bathroom, which was clean and large and equipped with a big shower. Actually the room was quite little for three people by anyway we was there only for sleeping. Another "plus" of... More

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighborhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighborhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
