Friendly, fun, and affordable hotel in a good location in downtown Berlin. Staff we very helpful and the rooms were quiet and in great shape. Lots of restaurants around and easy access to the subway - only about 35 minutes by public transportation from Berlin Tegel.

Nice location, walking distance from Friedrich Strasse and some of the major sites to see including Brandeburg Tor on the side and the Museum Island on the other. Well served by underground and close to August Strasse (full of art galleries) and the nice places to eat in Mitte. Room was clean, well kept, with nice window. Not big but... More

- quiet rooms - nice view in rooms of 7th and 8th floor - bike rental available - wifi is crap - modern furniture - ideal location - do not take inhouse breakfast -> hipster bar next door serves breakfast buffet (almost whole day) for 9,90 euro and is delicious!

Most of the other reviews covered this hotel pretty well. It is in a good location, right near a tram stop and underground station. Very handy to be able to go to the underground station to purchase travel tickets. We found the daily ticket very worthwhile for ease of popping onto the underground (U) and overground trains (S) and on... More

If you do not need a fancy hotel and want a decent hotel from which to base your exploration of Berlin, this is the place for you. There are no frills at this establishment, although the daily-replenished bottles of water were a wonderful touch, and the room was decently sized. What was most interesting about my room was that there... More

I didn't post any photos of my actual room because it looks exactly like the hotel's promo shots. The room was well sized and the big windows were great. I overlooked the main street but had no issues with noise. The staff were all incredibly friendly, the room comfortable, the bed fantastic. The location is very convenient -- literally around... This was the second time I have stayed at this hotel and again I was very happy with the service and cleanliness. The position is really great with lots of restaurants within walking distance. We spent 2 nights and traveled by car to Berlin (couple with our little Jack Russel dog - main reason to choose the Velvet accepting pets!) The hotel is fairly new (maybe 10 years) is clean and offers no costly thrills - exept for the 19 EUR a day Parking Garage which is an absolute must when you travel by... More

I stayed at Velvet in December 2013 for almost one week - work related trip, shared a double room with a colleague. We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of October and loved it! We had a Junior Suite which had stunning floor to ceiling windows offering a great panorama over the city. Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
