The hostel is very clean and nice. Friendly staff, nice rooms with a lot of space. A bar at the reception. No wifi in the rooms - only at reception. You get a keycard to your room. Close to the citycentre if you go by the excellent s- or u-bahn

We were constantly told to be quiet, even on the weekend! We were being totally unreasonable, the staff were on some kind of power high. One night our room smelled of sewage for hours because of the plumbing, they said it happens sometimes. The bar had a really small selection of drinks, I would just stick to beer at this... More

Nice and clean place, comfortable beds, near the city center, subway and tram stops right beside the hotel, friendly staff and the best price-quality ratio in town! I absolutely recommend this hostel!

This hostel is the most popular with both foreign and German schools, because can accommodate large groups of young persons in spacious bright dormitory rooms, with beds already made-up with crisp white comfortable sheets for a goods night sleep. Moreover, the school staff are less stressed because of the range of recreational facilities, especially the bar area to keep the... More

This hostel is quite a bit out of the city centre but easily accessible on public transport. There is a station really close. The staff were very friendly and sociable. The rooms were clean and comfortable with free bed linen. Lockers were provided in the room but you must bring your own lock. The bar at this hostel is really... More

I'm backpacking around the world and after 6 months in South Africa, the Middle East, The Netherlands, and Germany, Generator is actually the 2nd worst place I've stayed at. Pros - sheets were clean and bed was somewhat comfortable. Cons - SIZE. Generator is not a hostel, it's a hotel with dorm options. The place is absolutely huge and there... More

The rooms were unbearably hot, the toilets stank of urine, the showers barely worked, dead bugs everywhere, too large, and way to far from the city (the trams go from the city center straight to the hostel, but it's pretty expensive). I would not recommend you to go here.

This is a big hostel and the rooms are big as well. There is no wi-fi in the rooms, only in the lobby. My room was on the 7th floor and there are two lifts, but they are very slow, so I took the stairs most of the time. The bathrooms were very clean. It was really hot in the... More

The location of this hostel is excellent as it is close to public transportation and is reasonable priced. The only issue is the amount of noise at night (all night) makes it difficult to sleep. The meals available were abundant and varied to allow people with different eating habits options for eating.

I stayed here for two nights while visiting Berlin. The hostel is slightly out of the way....also I got pretty lost trying to find the place. The wifi is free in the lobby but isn't available in the rooms. transport links are just around the corner to get into the city though and pretty easy to operate. The staff were... More

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighborhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighborhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
