Located at the end of one of the main shopping streets in Berlin (think Gucci, Armani etc). Walking distance to majority of the most famous landmarks and can get underground/train right outside the hotel door to the others. Nice restaurants just around the corner. Very clean. One of the best breakfasts I've had in a hotel. Room 208 could do... More

Nice, clean hotel right next to the Underground and mainline station. 5 minute walk from the Brandenburg gate and 10 minutes from the Parliament. Although the hotel in part looks onto the railway its very well soundproofed so don't worry about the noise. Staff were pretty good and did their job well. Plenty of shops and places to eat nearby.... More

The hotel was very clean, the breakfast buffet was excellent, the location was perfect, since I had business at Humboldt University just a couple of blocks away. It's also a good, central location for sightseeing in the eastern part of the city. They did have a plumbing problem during my stay, so at one point when I got back to... More

I was in Berlin for a conference, and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the NH Friedrichstrasse. I had never stayed in an NH hotel before. The staff were professional, friendly, and very helpful. The accommodations clean and perfect for my stay. The breakfast was excellent, the best I have had at a European hotel. It is a... More

I like NH Hotels. This one has a great location: walking distance to the museums área and near the Friedrichstrasse underground station. Rooms are quiet, with bathtub and breakfast is excellent. The cuisine is quite good.

We booked four nights here after a first night at the Ramada Alexanderplatz (reviewed separately), because the NH was first for our first night in Berlin. We chose the NH because of its location (handy to the conference venue at Humboldt University) and because it was well reviewed. It did not disappoint. Our first three nights were in a standard... Fine hotel, wonderful location, delicious breakfast; nice bar; choice nearby restaurants. Should have better plumbing: drains, hot water consistency, flushing pressure. Should have printed information sheet with hotel plan; internet operation and costs; current conditions. Grade: A minus

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
