This was our fifth short stay in Berlin, all in midrange hotels. This was the best and we come again. Friendly staff with day-pass for public transport. Comfort room and bathroom, sleepy beds. Well decorated with historical things, foto's mostly. The hotel is very well maintained with a loving care I think. Tasty breakfast buffet with many good choices. Coffee... More

The hotel is located in a must visit district of Berlin: Prenzlauer Berg in so called "Mitte". The hotel seems to be one of the last private owned ones in the area, and can easily compete with the prices of the usual budget hotels like Meininger. And it offers much more comfort and quality, for a better price. I can... More

We stayed three nights at this lovely hotel in June 2014. It was one of our favorite hotel stays during our trip through Germany. The rooms and common areas are very clean and well kept. The desk staff spoke English very well and were very helpful in giving us directions and recommendations. The staff was very helpful when my daughter... More

I stayed in Kastanienhof hotel for 3 night, in january 2015. We had to cancel our first booking due to a mistake and re-do a second booking, the staff was really nice and polite. Even when we arrived, they tried to help us with everything we needed. We booked the triple room... it was very spacious (and clean). It was... More

We spent about five days in this hotel. Really enjoyed this small, impeccably clean hotel. The breakfast was very good considering the small sizeof the hotel. The breakfast room was pleasant and eventually we found the coffee machine where we could make a coffee ourselves. I don't know what more a person could want and why they would go out... More

We just loved this hotel. It is a no frills hotel, but very clean and taken care of with a wonder, friendly staff. We were over the moon to find out they had a parking for the hotel (it was snowing when we got in and roads were busy and trying to find a parking in a new place when... More

Cannot have a better location than in Prenzlauer Berg - trendy "east" part of Berlin. Multiple restaurants, cafes and bars within short walking distance. Bus stop is right on the corner of the block with the subway within walking distance. Our room and bathroom was a very decent size. Everything was clean, reasonable and in the heart of the city... Friendly and very service mindes staff almost felt like family to us all. Stayed over New Years and found the trams outsider very easy to use for geting around. Comfortable beds and very clean and fresh Roms. If returning we Will ask for room 50 or 52 and possibly more Roms with balkong on top. Breakfast at hotel was ok... More

We were here three nights as part of a tour. The room was clean and had all of the amenities we wanted. Of course, we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. For the traveler that doesn't require a luxury hotel, this is a good choice. As others have said, the location is excellent. There are many bars,... More

A nice hotel in a terrific location. The tram runs in front of the hotel so it's a short commute to sightseeing attractions, and either way you turn from the hotel there are bars, restaurants, shopping, and some awesome bakeries. I don't think you could find a hotel in a better location in Berlin. Outdoor dining abounds. The room offerings... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
