Stayed one nigh at the Gold Hotel whilst in Berlin. On Wismarplatz which is a pleasant enough tree lined square. Gold Hotel was clean and the reception staff friendly and helpful and I had a good night sleep in a room at the back with a view over neighbouring gardens. Only problem for me was that it was a bit... More

We stayed at the Gold hotel for five nights, on holiday as a couple with a group of friends. We booked the Gold Hotel as part of a flights and hotel package via Expedia, having checked out reviews here first. The hotel was easy to find, a few minutes' walk from Samariterstrasse underground station. The road itself is slightly away... More

I went to Berlin on a short trip, mainly to a lieder recital at the Berliner Philarmoniker. I had to travel on a budget, so I spent some time searching the Internet for an inexpensive hotel. Well, Gold Hotel was the right choice: inexpensive, very clean, not far from the centre (good connections by bus and tube). I had a... More

The location is great, in a neighbourood full of nice restaurants and shops and very close to the subway, but the hotel itself could need a renovation. It has the atmosphere of an old hotel of the sixties and even if it provides good services, it's a little sad. The rooms have old-style furnitures and totally not up to the... More

Location is great. A lovely neighborhood. We start our morning at the local bakery next door and enjoy evening meal at the Mexican bar 2 steps from the hotel. The hotel is O.K and clean and comfortable. There a smell of cigarette often in the lobby area. Be aware that floor 4 is smoking floor. We were little disappointed that... More

I stayed here over new year's for two nights. Rooms: clean, simple furniture including a large closet and a desk, conventional (non-flat-screen) TV, comfortable bed and linens. Large window with curtains. Bathroom small but totally fine. Only two towels were provided per person. Location: in Friedrichshain, a hip and somewhat alternative part of (former East) Berlin, with multiple bars, restaurants,... More

Hotel is just fine. Close to the downtown and all important things in Berlin. Communication easy with U stations quite near. Service nice and polite. Breakfast just to eat your plenty before full day off. Cute mexican club-bar just around the corner. Room for three - space enough, beds - suited us fine. Parking - free places opposite the main... This hotel, outside the Mitte, is a hidden bargain. Rooms are modest but very adequate. Free wi-fi in the rooms, too, which is above and beyond what a lot of hotels offer. It's two blocks from a subway stop, which makes getting into the center of town easy. It's not near many significant tourist sites, but is well located for... More

I stayed here for Christmas & New Year's Eve 2004. I found it a very pleasant and comfortable hotel. Mind you at that time it lacked a restaurant or bar but drinks and snacks may be purchased at reception and enjoyed either in your room or in the nice enclosed garden room. The staff was extremely pleasant and courteous. It... More

Staying in Friedrichshain

Neighborhood Profile
When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may find a bar with international crowds, electronic music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other, an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit buildings and live alternative music. No matter your taste, the best way to end a night out in Friedrichshain is sitting by the Spree River at the East side gallery, the longest and best preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Oberbaum Bridge.
