CityHotel is one of those places you stay at if (like me) you're going to the city, not the hotel. It's basic accommodation at a fair price. 120 Euros per night when i was there. CityHotel is nothing to look at, inside or out. It's in the former East Berlin, and it certainly looks it. And at 14 euros i... More

We got a good deal on this hotel and chose it primarily because of its location. It's right in the center of the city, near Checkpoint Charlie on Leipziger Strasse. There are some nice (but expensive) restaurants nearby, as is a supermarket and Underground station. The hotel has very dated decor for such an expensive part of the city (mind,... More

Don't bother staying here, there are many better hotels in Berlin. The room is tired and shabby with dirty marks around the room and paint chipping and pealing from the wall beside the bed. The bed itself has two single duvets on a double bed, when i asked for a double duvet i was rudely told i should have requested... More

The location of this hotel is great - right in the centre of most of Berlin's attractions - and it is very good value for money. The rooms are fairly basic and noisy unless you can get a room at the rear of the hotel or you are happy to keep the double glazed windows shut for the duration of... More

I had a business meeting in Berlin and organizer suggested this hotel for a one night stay. Room initially looked good, but when I come back to my room in the evening I notice a small bug in my bed. I killed it. Next morning it turns out that my bed was infested with bed bugs and i was totally... More

I stayed in this hotel for a week in December 2013. The location was good 2-3min walk to U2 and U6 Underground stations that have direct connections to major stations allowing ease of access around Berlin. Walking distance to most attractions even just 30min walk from Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, Topographie of Terror, Checkpoint Charlie, Museum Island. The hotel is very... More

We visited Berlin on 13th December for a long Weekend. This is a basic hotel but the room and bathroom was very clean and tidy. The Hotel is above the Lowenbrau Bar & Restaurant although we were not disturbed by an noise. The bar itself has a real German flavour with steins of beer and typical food of pork, sausages,... This was the first hotel in Berlin, and I hope the only one, where I had really bad experience. The room was dirty - hair of previous guests was in the corner, the tiles are yellow as they're not cleaned properly, the shower has yellow stains all around and although I asked for a quiet room in advance, nobody really... We visited Berlin from 24 until 28 July and stayed in the Cityhotel. Location is excellent: you can walk to different historical places and museums. Public transport is nearby too. Our room on the second floor was spacious, clean and quiet. Bathroom was good too, perhaps a bit small and simple. There is only a soap bottle and no extra's,... More

The hotel is located a short walk away from the Stadtmitte U-Bahn station (U-Bahn is the name of the subway in Germany.) You can hop on the U-Bahn and get to wherever you want to go in Berlin quickly and easily. If you plan to visit Checkpoint Charlie, it is a short walk away from the hotel. Also, the area... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
