My sister and I stayed here in January 2015 as part of a 5 day trip to Berlin. Hotel altberlin was a lovely quaint establishment and was perfect as the base of our stay. The overall decoration of the hotel is old fashioned and cosy, and the room was clean and pleasant. Upon arrival, there was a strange smell coming... More

It is quite a beautiful hotel. The buffet is great. Location is also quite good, though there's a lot of walking to do if you want to go to the city centre. Rooms are clean and luminous. The internet service should be changed as well. Makes no sense having to renew the password every 24 hours, but it works, which... More

My daughter and I visited Berlin for her birthday in December 2014. We picked this hotel totally randomly...so glad we did! Yes, it can be described as basic, but there is everything you need. The staff were very helpful and well mannered, the food was excellent, the rooms clean and tidy and the overall old world charm of the place... More

This was such a find! I love a quirky, old hotel and this was perfect. The rooms are a bit basic and the matresses could be newer, but the communal areas have a wonderful faded glory to them. It was our first time in Berlin and on arrival the hotel seemed a bit far from the centre, but once we... More

A nice hotel decorated in a thirties style, some quirky props to add to the feeling. Friendly and helpful staff and a good selection for breakfast. Close to potsdamer platz, approx 15 mins walk, easy access to buses and underground line U2 plus near to a section of the wall memorial. Great Christmas market nearby as well.

My daughter and I visited in August The Hotel Altberlin is a quirky homage to the past. The ground floor rooms and staircase exude a distant grandure. The rooms themselves were comfortable , floor to ceiling curtains, working shutters on the windows - extra pillows available - tea & coffee available. The TV showed mainly German programmes but the internet... More

If you are a non-smoker make sure you ask for a non smoking room when you book! We did not and spent our first night in a room which stank of smoke! everything smelled including the bed linen, pillows and quite quickly our clothes! We asked to change rooms but were told the hotel was full. After a very bad... More

My daughter and I booked through Laterooms and got a good bed and breakfast deal. The hotel reception exudes olde worlde style, with a selection of rustic antiquey items. Our twin room on the 2nd floor was large with very dark old furniture; the bed was comfortable. The shower (there was no bath as advertised) was awkward to use; water... More

Our first trip to Berlin required a hotel with character, the large chains are fine but you could be anywhere. The Hotel Altberlin was perfect: a 1930s period piece. The location is surprisingly good, the bus stop at the door will take you to most places but we found that we walked most of the time. The breakfast is very... More

old fashioned hotel, basic but good value so you can't complain, there is a wonderful restaurant nearby, turn left out of the hotel, for approx. 500 yards on your left, full every night of locals, best food in berlin. breakfast at the hotel was excellent and two of my colleagues who stayed with me were also happy with the hotel.

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighborhood Profile
Charlottenburg
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighborhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theaters close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
