We recently stayed 4 nights in this hotel. The hotel itself is in a traditional 1940's style and is very unique. If you don't like the decor don't book a hotel with this type of charm. We had room 120 which is situated facing outwards to the main road; it was noisy and the room could do with a fan... More

This hotel is located right in front of a bus stop and just down the street from a subway station. It's a perfect location for easily getting around Berlin and back to the hotel. If you don't want to spend a lot of money for a room, I think this hotel is good value for money. The staff are friendly... More

Other reviewers have described the hotel as 'quirky' and it is. I didn't dislike it. It was fairly clean, the breakfast was above average, the room was large with high ceilings but both the hotel and the area in which it's located have a bit of a downmarket feel. The room probably needed £1k spending on it to get it... More

Visited Berlin to celebrate New Year. The hotel is quirky, clean and very comfortable. Location is great walking distance to Potsdamer and Brandenburg Gates. The bar is small but full of character and charm. Nice to chill out with a beer or two. Bedroom was spacious, high ceilings, coffee machine and huge bathroom. Good variety at breakfast. If you want... More

A pleasant hotel in an old style with comfortable, adequate high-ceiling rooms, plus good breakfasts and enjoyable meals. Some street noise, but not excessive. Within walking distance (for reasonably fit people) of main city sights and a short walk from the U.

The location is pretty decent for this hotel - about 15 minute walk from the Potsdamer Platz and another 10 to the Brandenburg Gate. There is gated parking for a fee. However, the rooms were tiny and the beds were terrible. Really terrible. Also, every time you left the hotel you had to give your room key to the front... More

Booked two rooms.120 and 127 they were next to each other. Both clean and comfortable. As mentioned in other reviews you could hear noise from the road but we slept very well. 127 has a small bathroom and when sitting on the loo your legs go under the sink. Very quirky! Location was great.Breakfast excellent. So nice not to stay... More

My sister and I stayed here in January 2015 as part of a 5 day trip to Berlin. Hotel altberlin was a lovely quaint establishment and was perfect as the base of our stay. The overall decoration of the hotel is old fashioned and cosy, and the room was clean and pleasant. Upon arrival, there was a strange smell coming... More

It is quite a beautiful hotel. The buffet is great. Location is also quite good, though there's a lot of walking to do if you want to go to the city centre. Rooms are clean and luminous. The internet service should be changed as well. Makes no sense having to renew the password every 24 hours, but it works, which... More

My daughter and I visited Berlin for her birthday in December 2014. We picked this hotel totally randomly...so glad we did! Yes, it can be described as basic, but there is everything you need. The staff were very helpful and well mannered, the food was excellent, the rooms clean and tidy and the overall old world charm of the place... More

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighborhood Profile
Charlottenburg
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighborhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theaters close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
