Firstly the positives... Can recommend the area and following trip-adviser recommendations didn't have a bad meal all week... Now the hotel... I could go into detail about cleanliness...along with the condemning photos we're adding to the growing number on trip-adviser (sweat covered pillows, tatty rooms, dismal lighting and a weeks worth of dust)...but it's nothing that hasn't been said before.... So the photos of the hotel make it look modern, but inside its starting to look a little tired. We stayed for 5 nights in a superior room. The room was clean and the bed confortable.. and the hotel is in a good location.. Near to bars and the u bhan. Things that could be better.. Firstly the staff weren't... More

Good Place in every sense! But no Parking! There is one across the street and it cost 10€ for 24hs! On Sunday's on the street is free! Also very close to gay bars! I'm the sauna and jacuzzi lots of action just so u know! Very central to local tour stuff!

The hotel is nice and sorrounded of bars and clubs. Easy acces with ubahn. Staff is very friendly also. The rates were a little high in comparison to other goods places in the area. The sauna area was crowded sometimes but it has a nice jacuzzi outside.

Me and my partner stayed here for 5 nights, needless to say this is a VERY GAY hotel and despite there being a lot of heterosexual guests there were a lot of bemused looks on some women's faces while exploring the gym/sauna/spa area!! Our room was OK, bed was a little small for two men over 180 cm. The toilet... More

This is my 3rd time staying at the Axel in 7 years. Again I feel that the value, location, room size and amenities can not be beat for the price. I always stay in a junior suite so can't comment on the basic rooms but the size of the J.S. Is massive in European standards with the most closet/clothes storage... More

My second stay here (Feb'13 and Feb'14). I like the location close to the „Wittenbergplatz“ metro station and some gay bars/clubs in Schöneberg district. I’ve got an „Expedia deal of the day“ so I’ve booked Junior suite with a breakfast. It was totally worth it. There is a huge comfortable bed with see-throug red glass behind a bed, bathtub and... Stayed here for a week in Aug 2015. Boutique type of hotel and very well located to the main areas. Great transport facilities to get anywhere from here to any of the main spot i Berlin to visit. The weather was extremely warm on my visit and I did find the hotel very helpful in this regard. The room was... More

Maybe it was our bad luck to get awfull suite and room, but it was way below expectations for this type of hotel. Suite as well as second room we had was damp with mouldy smell. Lights were poor and since whole look of hotel is black and dark, it was hard to see anything in the room. Equipment outdated... More

Staying in Schoneberg

Neighborhood Profile
Schoneberg
In 1963, Schöneberg was the center of the political west, inspiring John F. Kennedy to choose this area to famously announce, "Ich bin ein Berliner." Times may have changed, but modern-day Schöneberg still pays tribute to its historical legacies. Once the richest city outside of Berlin proper, the area's affluent past is still visible in ornate housing facades dating back to the Gründerzeit of the 19th century, while residents in fur coats walking their dogs or shopping in high-end KaDeWe continue the tradition with a modern flair. Schöneberg was also once the center of the decadent and burlesque nightlife of the 1920s. It was here that Marlene Dietrich partied with Christopher Isherwood and the first gay bar in Germany was founded. Today, the gay community still revolves around Nollendorfplatz. The overground Ubahn station is even illuminated in rainbow colors, paying tribute to Schöneberg's progressive past.
