We spent a week in January at this great hostel. It's not one of those small and quaint hostels but a large one, and this is seen in the organization and the gentle stuff. Lots of floors and rooms: we stayed at a 4 bed room which was really big and it had an incredible private bathroom. It's the hostel... More

Great place to meet other travellers due to roof bar and their happy hours. The location is accessible, I had no difficulties finding it using public transport :-) and the room was clean. They were flexible with the booking as we booked it for two people then explained that one person is staying one extra night.

Wombats in Berlin is very good. Straight away the gentleman on the reception desk was very friendly and put me at ease. He used my first name and explained all of the necessary information. The rooms are cosy (I stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm). The bathrooms were perfectly clean when I arrived. The breakfast is a cheap add... More

Loved the hostel! We paid a little extra for a private room and it was just what we wanted. The location is excellent and the rooftop bar was great. We saw several beautiful sunsets while enjoying a very reasonably priced pina colada. Many thanks! Will definitely be visiting again

I have been to a lot of hostels and i can verry safely say this was by far the shittest. If your looking to have fun, then this is definetly not the place! They will not alow you to bring alcohol into any room.. not even food! We have a kitchen that we paid extra for in our apartment and... More

Hi Cassidy, thank you for your feedback. But I think there is a little misunderstanding. Of course you are allowed to bring your own food and alcohol to your apartment and to cook. Anythink else makes no sence. Did you mentioned it to the staff, that you are in an apartment? The prohibition applies only for guests who stay in... More

We stayed here as part of the Berlin NYE tour and the rooms and hostel were great. 4 person room with ensuite and lockers. Breakfast was included but pretty cheap anyway at €3.80 and included cereals, bread/buns and spreads as well as cheese, ham etc. The Zeit fur Brot cafe nearby was great and Vietnamese place opposite was fantastic. My girlfriend and I stayed at Wombats for 7 nights in the 2 bedroom, ensuite apartment recently and we both had a brilliant experience. Our welcome was warm and the apartment - fully equipped with a kitchen (all utensils and a hob, tea, coffee, pots and pans, kettle), bathroom (with towels), ready made double bed, living area with a coffee... I have stayed here a few times both with tour groups and on my own and the staff have always been polite and really helpful with advice about the city. I stayed in a 4 person dorm each time and the rooms themselves are modern, clean and decent in size, plus an in room bathroom which was quite an exciting... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
