We spent Christmas here in 2014 and loved every minute of it. Mittenwald is only about an hour and a half by car from Munich. If you are looking to spend a traditional Bavarian Christmas with primarily German tourists, we certainly would recommend the Alpenrose in Mittenwald. In Germany the big Christmas party is on the evening of the 24th... More

We were a group of 4 staying here and we could park out the back. The hotel is charming but the geezer is a bit of an old misery guts. This is saved by a very pleasant young lady who was working in the morning. And Zoltan seems a nice dog. The rooms are small but very comfortable and good... More

Stayed for a week just after Christmas and over the new year with family at this very traditional family operated hotel. This is the second visit to Mittenwald the previous being in summer- on that occasion we stayed at the nearby Post Hotel (highly recommended). The hotel is great but there are a few little things patrons should be aware... More

From the painted façade to the wall decorations, this is almost a museum of what hotels used to be like 100 years ago. Except, of course, this has all the comforts of a modern hotel. The staff is friendly and very helpful. There is traditional zither music in the restaurant in the evening, and the breakfasts are great. We stayed... More

The hotel is great! Perfect location, great breakfast. Rooms are small a bit and old, but have so spectacular views! Also there is a very good restaurant downstairs serving traditional dishes. From disadvantages - no kettle in the room, and a lot of dust under the bed.

GPS lead me to a pedestrian only area--be aware, as the hotel told this happens all the time. LOcated right in the center of town--right out the front door. We were there on a Sunday night and some restaurants were closed--but there are many there if you stay on a different weekday. The room was small but comfortable. The staff... More

This beautiful old building has up to date bedrooms with nice balcony and view to the Karwendel. Watching the morning sun rise on the edge of the mountains is breathtakingly beautiful. The food is original Bavarian and tastes very good, nicely served with good Folkmusic is wonderful. In the evening or on weekends, the musicians are here to play "their"... More

We stayed at Hotel Alpenrose four nights during our 6-week adventure in Europe. We chose this property because of its proximity to the Mittenwald train station and its good reviews on TA. As we left the train station, it was almost visible (or at least a short walk further down the street), we saw the back of the building. Hotel... More

Typical Bavarian hotel, beautifully painted on the outside. We had booked a 2 night stay, half board. When we arrived, we were told that it was the day that their restaurant closed! If we had known that beforehand, we would have booked elsewhere and I think we were intentionally uninformed of this, as they knew that would be the case.... More

We stayed here for several days after our originally reserved hotel (another one that belonged to the same owners I guess) was overbooked. This place is very well located and is a very cosy. The only downside is the restaurant - there are so many great little restaurants around, that offer a way better service and quality of food.
