This guest house grows on you. The family owners live and work there. They will treat you like lost cousins by the third day .. it takes time. Guest accommodations are modest and clean, like renting a spare bedroom in a large house. It is off the beaten path by a mile or two, in our opinion.

This hotel has stunning views of a typical Bavarian valley with mountains in the background and is a great base for visiting Berchtesgaden and Salzburg attractions. The host and his daughter both speak enough English to get the basic tasks done. We dined in the hotel on one of our three nights and enjoyed the meal although it was a... More

We loved the family run style and authenticity. Our first night in Germany was spent here and we were pleasantly surprised with real German music at dinner! Very peaceful and pretty; a postcard of the German countryside. We spent 3 nights and everyone is very nice and safe. The location is close to Salzburg, Hitler's Eagles Nest and the Salt... More

A hidden gem......I really do not want to tell anyone, then wont be able to get a room. THis place we stumbled upon due to my college age son picking by another reviewing company. From the time we arrived, they took no drivers license or rental car information, the owner took us directly upstairs to our rooms. Small , immaculate... More

Stayed three days in Sept 2012--I confess to being a return guest--last stayed here in 2005--it is located a small village only 5 Km from Berchtesgarden, but it seems like another world--rooms are large, breakfast great and other meals in the restuarant were great as well--people are warm and welcoming--hotel is adjacent to a beautiful old church steeped in Bavarian... This is a pretty nice B&B for the price. It's location is top notch with views looking out on a beautiful alpine valley. It has a quaint and rural feel. The common areas felt a little tired and could have done for some updating. The room was quite nice and clean and the balcony was a bonus. The owners were... More

We stayed at the Gasthaus Maria Gern on May 31, 2008. We had been there before on three occassions during the past ten years. This site (trip advisor) shows the rates as being about 57 euros, but we were charged 100 Euros, $166.00 at the exchange rate we purchased our Euros. Unfortuately you can not make reservations through this site... More

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel & Gasthaus Maria Gern and truly enjoyed the experience. Maria Gern is a little hard to find but if you follow the posted signs you'll be fine. The Hotel/Gasthaus is located right next to a beautiful chapel and there are cows and sheep grazing in the adjoining fields. It is a very quiet... More

Stay here -not in town! Great location a couple of miles outside of Berchtesgaden, but with easy access to the town along a beautiful winding road. Picture-perfect setting surrounded by mountains and woods, all taken in from your own private balcony. Don't miss the shady hiking trail across the road that follows a crystal-clear running stream. Nice, comfortable hotel with... More

Our room was lovely -- comfortable, clean and up to date, with a spectacular view of mountains, the church, and lush green hillsides. It's worth paying extra for a balcony. The place is only minutes from Berchtesgaden, but it seems set in a private world. The photos posted by an earlier reviewer are excellent, yet no photos really do justice... More
