We spent one night at this hotel when visiting Karlsruhe. Located very close to the station and only few minutes walking from the center of Karlsruhe. It is more likely a renting appartment then a hotel because the hotel building where we stayed was separated from the reception office, which was few steps away from the hotel. The room was... More

My colleagues and I unfortunately arrived after 10.30pm and had no choice but to stay over for one terrible night, checking out a day earlier than planned the following morning. The previous comments are all valid in terms of the strange configuration of reception area and access to rooms. The corridors were smoky, dark and grubby, as was my room.... More

I spent two nights in this hotel for a business trip. The location is good, since it is close to a tram station and within walking distance from the city centre. However, it was not easy to locate since it is not clearly marked and the reception is in a different area than the actual rooms. To access the rooms,... More

Please avoid this hotel, it is absolutely awful - please do avoid it, don't do like me and think "It cannot be that bad?!?". It IS really bad. - I had a rat coming up to the room from the toilet (and back in when chased)!!! This is true. The reason is, the building is too old, the piping too,... More

We stayed one night in this hotel and we found it very good for its price. Rooms are clean, staff are kind and speak english, breakfeast is comprised in the room price and is ok. The hotel location is also good, 10 minute walk from the city main street.

I had to book something cheap for a few days in Karlsuhe and I found a "Gästehaus am Karlstor" which was what I needed. The address was Kriegsstr. 51 and I went there, but there was a casino playhouse and no hotel/gästehaus. I thought I wrote the address wrongly so I went to an Internet cafe to find out what... More

We arrived in the afternoon and were given a decent one star room (but at least was clean). In the evening we went out and when we came back our room was wide open as they were renovating the place!!! We had left our luggage open along with our briefcases with notebooks and documents and people were changing the furniture... More

This hotel is not far from the train station and also within walking distance from the pedestrian zone, with a streetcar stop practically outside your door. There is a grocery store, cafes, bakeries, and a bar nearby. The staff are friendly and as helpful as possible. The room that I had was larger than I expected for European standards. There... More

The only good think I can say about this hotel, if you could call it a hotel, is that it is close to the tram stop and the reception gave us good directions to local places. Once you check in with reception, however, you then have to go back outside and next door to access the hotel rooms, which are... More

The worst experience ever! On Oct 25th, 2008 around 1pm I came to the reception of the Hotel am Karlstor in Karlsruhe, Germany. I got an explanation that the hotel had some problems and they booked a room in another hotel. Then, the receptionist gave me a printed Google map with the directions how to get to the hotel Handelshof.... More
