We enjoyed our stay at the Backmulde. Convenient to all of old town. Good Shopping, near university and Castle. Room was clean and bath was nice. It fell short on amenities. No coffee maker, no hair dryer, wine glasses, no wine opener. Bath room window was next to an apartment complex had to have shades drawn at all times.

We weren't looking for a place to be pampered, just a place convenient to altstadt where we could park the car and forget it. Backmulde was a great solution. Near the middle of the Haupstrasse, blocks from the Neckar, food, shopping and a short walk to the funicular to the castle. We got an inexpensive room with no view and... More

Pleasant hotel in great proximity to just about everything in Heidelberg. Room was very nice with a comfortable bed (German style double bed with two separate duvets etc). Friendly staff went out of their way to help us, and the breakfast buffet was difficult to fault! Recommended.

Tucked away off a courtyard in a quiet street, but not far at all from the pedestrian Hauptstasse, Backmulde is a high class establishment. Excellent rooms and spacious bathrooms, very well lit and wifi that worked well until it went down on our last day there. Very friendly people at the front desk, who also work at the adjacent restaurant... More

Loved the proximity to eateries, shops, sights - all walkable Staff very very helpful with sourcing an alternative travel arrangement for us to return to Frankfurt as it was the weekend of German train drivers strike. Needed more time in Hberg but due to drivers strike mid week we unfortunately arrived a day late. Castle walk a must - wonderful... More

Pros: Great location - close to the Heidelbery bridge and city center; free breakfast - pretty basic, but sufficient, English-speaking staff, quiet rooms, good value for money. Cons: If you are driving to the hotel, the approach can get a little tricky due to the many one-way streets, parking lot is small with limited spots but the staff was more... More

Just wrapped up a very pleasant 5 night stay in this hotel. Superb location in the Altstadt..close to all the sites-churches, museums, restaurants and shops. A 60 sec walk to the Neckar River..and walking distance the Schloss overlooking the town and on the other side of the river to Philosophers'Way..which can easily become 2-3 hour walk through beautiful forest on... Our room was very tiny, but the bathroom was roomy and efficient. Everything was very clean and modern. The location is convenient to walk around old town. And since it's not on a busy street, it was very quiet. The breakfast was great, and staff is very nice. Next time, we'll dine in their restaurant.

We chose this hotel for its location in the old town and were pleased to find that it is in a quiet side street. The rooms seem to be brand new with simple functional and comfortable furniture. I usually find hotel beds too hard, but this one was fine. The ensuite bathroom is small and without a bidet or bath,... More

The location of this hotel is perfect for exploring Old Town; it's on a quiet side street, mere meters from the Hauptstrasse, with tons of restaurants, cafes, etc. in walking distance. All of the historical sites are within walking distance. There is also local transportation (buses) within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. We arrived by train to the... More
