First off, the hotel is -- overall -- delightful, but a bit worn. The room in which we stayed was in dire need of an upgrade (at a minimum, a paint job and some new wallpaper...) The staff is helpful and courteous, and the Michelin 1-star restaurant is superb and worth the trip in and of itself. We had a... More

Dear NYCCS, You have my full sympathy and we are very sorry that a silly misunderstanding has cut a very good critic in half. We had a double booking from the restaurant, so instead of booking only two breakfast at EUR 23 each four were booked. The of course unjustified amount of EUR 46 has been credited already onto your... More

Very historical and inspiring hotel, which deserves to mention to be decorated the Laura Ashley way: indeed, you feel like staying by The Little House in the Prairie!!! Rooms, bedding and bathrooms were amazing although a bit dusty... Reception staff (see also your name on the door bell! lol) is great although the restaurant one looks more mitigated; the inn... This small luxury hotel was a gem to find in Heidelburg. Marcella at the front desk was very helpful, gracious and hospitable. She showed us how to get to town, enjoy the beautiful sights, where to drink the best coffee, nearest gas station. All their rooms were suites, ours opened directly to the garden. Our room was beautifully furnished befitting... More

This is a charming individual hotel. As befits a Small Luxury Hotel of the World the Service is first class. Very personal, very profesisonal but without being intrusive. Couple of nice touches including Prosecco on arrival and having the name outside our door. Breakfast was very good, although the room is very dark (Lots of deep reds and greens) The... More

A German country style hotel across the Neckar river in a quiet location. It has a renowned restaurant and a weinstube with memorabilia from the cadet days when students fought duels for bravery and honor. The hotel is run with care by the Kraft family and is a wonderful antidote to anonymous luxury hotel chains. The location is good for... More

I spent three days at the hotel on business and had a very pleasant stay. Room was clean and well kept and the dining room with its historic connections to the student duelling clubs was a delight. Excellent local food I had both Zander and belly pork which were superb, excellent service and fine local beers. Why stay at an... More

This hotel, across the Neckar from all the tourist throngs, has marvelous service and a very authentic aura. The three day package includes a private tour of the town and castle by a lovely lady guide, plus two meals in the hotel, plus breakfast and tickets to the museum and, while we were here during the music festival, tickets to... A warm welcome after a long drive was the beginning of a very pleasant stay in a building that breathes history. A spacious room and bathroom, comfortable (4 poster) bed, a superb breakfast (included when you are a member of the SLH-group of hotels) and good food in the historic Mensurstube (menu choice is a little limited but daily specials... Dear MetooAmsterdam, Well, "metoo" would like to visit Amsterdam again... - such a nice city and so much in common with Heidelberg, still a couple of less bridges..;-) Yes we look after our SLH guests, and are proud member of this fine corporation of independent privately owned hotels. We started adding now in the Mensurstube great culinary classics, for instance... More

I just stayed there for one night. I wish I could have stayed much longer. The elegant, classic, cozy atmosphere is present everywhere. The staff is very friendly and cooperative, yet professional. The cuisine is outstanding; i can understand why they just got their first Michelin star. All in all makes this place a jewel, especially if mixed with the... More

From the moment we arrived we were greeted warmly and offered a glass of prosecco (or punch) and a piece of Stollen! It was a wonderful way of being welcomed after a long drive and much appreciated. The hotel is very quaint and traditional. It is elegantly furnished and while some reviews have commented that it is out-dated, the hotel... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Expect to find a very homely luxurious country style hotel, which has been designed by Lady Laura Ashley. All rooms and suites are differently appointed and have individual names. People who rather like a modern hotel atmosphere with Bauhaus design and big lobbies, will perhaps have to make an extra effort to understand the over 540 years of history, which has been mentioned by Mark Twain already in his book "A tramp abroad". Our special approach towards a very personal welcome pampering style is well liked. ... more   less
