I find France to be a difficult country for hotels, so I was happy to see that Le Royal had quite good reviews on this website. And rightly so! Although it's not sheer luxury, the hotel is well appointed and very well maintained, and occupies a nice building right on the main square of Lyon. We had a room on... more

My wife, my 4 year daugther and I stayed at this hotel for one night. Proximity to shopping, subway and restaurants made it very convineant for us to get around. Frontdesk was extremely professional and helpful. Deluxe room that we stayed in was big enough and was extremely comfortable. The bed was extremely comfoy that actually made us oversleep. If... more

Very nice hotel in a great location. Close to metro and within walking distance to all the interesting places. Our deluxe room (522) was pretty large. Nicely furnished with in somewhat of a French country style. Flat screen TV (2 English channels : CNN and BBC). Very comfortable king bed. Very large new bath with hand shower attachment. We specifically... more

This was by far the best hotel we stayed in during our 2 week stay in France. Beautiful building, common areas and furnishings, excellent retaurant (no windows), down duvets, proper toiletries, excellent service. Highly recommended. more

The Royal Lyon is the most central hotel in Lyon, I believe, right on Place Bellecour. We had a deluxe room - very nicely decorated, view over the Clocher on Pl. A.. Poncet. The king size bed definitely had room for 3! The only downside was that the service was only ok. There was meant to be free water replaced... more

This hotel is one of the best centrally located hotels in Lyon. Located on the Place Bellecour with its kiosk dining. Bellecour Metro station also just across street which makes sightseeing and train station transfers convenient. If you enjoy walking you are within 15 minutes of everything. The front desk was very helpful, English speaking, and provided concierge services since... more

This hotel deserves all the stars it received. It is on one of the big, central squares of Lyon, in the middle of everything. Our room was spacious, well appointed, with a gorgeous bathroom. A very French place, luxurious and stylish, but cosy. We found this place by accident, stayed there one night for a very special occasion, and would... more

Spent a weekend break in Lyon and chose le Royal based on reviews on tripadvisor. We were extremely pleased withour stay. The hotel has planty of charm, has well equipped rooms, friendly courteous staff, EXTREMELY comfortable beds and is centrally located near to hundreds of cafes, restaurants and bars. The small downsides: not enough places to hang wet towels and... more

For a three day business trip to Lyon, the high rating of Le Royal at Tripadvisor inspired to make this choice, which I was not very happy with. Generally an old 'charming' city centre hotel (which I tend to like) that tries to keep up, but not fully succeeding. The location is splendid when you first are there (you need... more

A very nice hotel in an excellent location in Lyon. The room was beautifully decorated. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. There was an excellent view over the Cours Saleya from our window. My only criticism is that the (optional) breakfast is too expensive, at 22 euros. more
