This charming hotel has known better times, but it was the perfect place from which to visit Marseilles, since it is within walking distance of most places one would want to see, The view of port and beyond to the church on the hill was perfect. The staff was wonderful, very helpful. The breakfast was quite rich, with lots of... more

Cross between a hotel and a B&B. Excellent staff at the front desk proficient in English, helpful, and sparkling. I stayed here on a business trip. Got a room in the annex building next to the main building and did not get a room with a view of the harbor. Instead, it opens up to the building and alley next... more

I booked the 7th floor provencal room. The view is amazing. The windows are the full length of the room and you can lie in bed and watch the harbour. It will mesmerize you day and night with the lapping water, tiny boats and illuminated golden church on the top of the hill. Rooms are very clean (Yes the provencal... more

I am really surprised by the mix of reviews on this hotel -- i.e. that there are any that praise it. I stayed two nights at the Hotel Residence Vieux Port in late October 2005 for business - and was so appalled that I warned those who put me there against sending other guests there. Yes, the balcony onto the... more

After reading the reviews, we decided to book this hotel for a one night stay in Marseille before heading to Juan Les Pins. We had two rooms; one a double had been refurbished and was small but adequate. The other was a triple and was a big disappointment. First, the carpet and drapes were filthy. Second, the main bed was... more

We arrived into Marseille by train....whatever you do, don't let the cab driver tell you that you can walk to it...it's a long walk!! Just tell the driver that you will pay them 10 Euros to take you there...believe me, it's worth it!! OK, when we finally arrived at the hotel, we were absolutley amazed at how close to the... more

We stayed at this nice 3-star hotel from 30 Dec to 02 Jan. We had reserved a 7th floor «provençal» room for EUR130.00 per night. (Big) pros: South side sunny room (good point in winter), wall to wall/ceiling to ceiling window and a balcony giving a fabulous view of the Vieux-Port and the Notre Dame de la Garde. Staff are... more

Unlike the previous contributor, I was extremely impressed by this hotel - not just the superb view across the Vieux Port, but the comfort of my room, the excellent buffet breakfast (the best I have ever consumed in a European hotel anywhere!) and, above all, the great helpfulness and friendliness of ALL the staff, for whom nothing was too much... more

Having read the Herald & Tribune article on tripadvisor.com before I booked, I phoned the hotel to enquire about their "two nights for the price of one at weekends". Apparently this wasn't applicable at the time we went - late October - and judging by the amount of closed restaurants, it was certainly the end of the season. I booked... more
